Stopping W/MediaPlayer .....

The S-1... subkey is I believe a bogus reference to his user configuration
state not relevant to your own. The DisableDiscovery would be relevant for
what you're asking about.

What are your options specified under WMP's Tools:Options:Library:Media

disabling WMP add-ones no help.Adding to registry *DisableDiscovery* is
stronger.

Sorry for taking so long to get back to you! Yesterday's Vista Update
FUBAR'ed my system (some message saying the update didn't apply to my
OS???). Anyway, got that straightened out and MIRACULOUSLY the
possession of my wmpnetwk has ceased. I have no idea how or what fixed
it?! Of course its developed another possession which seems
uncontrollable by normal humans.

But that is for another section of this forum.

-*Flavius*- - Thanks for your help!

It wouldn't even reboot! Received the dreaded BSOD! Tried to re-boot
again and was taken to "start up repair," then the computer spent an
hour repairing and restoring itself to checkpoint from two weeks ago.
Somehow, all of this fried my installs of CS3 & Office 2007. I had to
reinstall them.

Everything seems to be working now without the mystery media file...
