OK--The Floppy Disk Drive Question

Thanks, Robert. I did try plugging it in using every configuration I could
think of, including reversing the ends, but still couldn't get it to work.
I hate to think about cracking open the box again but I'll give it a try.

Re: OK--The Floppy Disk Drive Question--Reply To All Who Responded

Looking at the connector straight-on, the flat side (top/bottom) with the side ends
extruding slightly past goes towards the male connector. Also the matching pin holes
will be closest to that edge.

OK. Yea, be careful in there. Go in only if all driver fiddling fails.
Then, ensure all is plugged in right on all the drives & cards & even
that the RAM is in secure. It could be some device other than the floppy
is plugged bad & is the actual culprit somehow. Also, try an alternative
power plug for the floppy, if within reach. Keep us informed.

I repeat: there is *no* standard on floppy drives, so the answer is
the same as for Shrodinger's cat in the box: both dead and alive.
Ya gots to *look* at the hardware carefully; in this case at *both* ends!

*What* "matching" pin holes?
The connector looks perfectly symmetrical - that is to say, it looks
the same with stripe to right or stripe to left.

The right leg of the R is deteriorating quickly and soon enough PCR will be PCP.

Not on any of the floppy power connectors I've ever used.

We were *NOT* talking about power cables; the stated problem stems
from the way the controller cable is connected.

Get a clue and follow your own advice!! Both data and power cable/connector have
been mentioned in the thread.

Yes, the floppy was the only problem. Everything else is fine. I also
checked the BIOS as well as starting in Safe Mode. Everything is a go. The
only thing left to do is step inside the box.

Hey--in some fluke of nature, you guessed my personality type: Thinking
Rational Organized Logical Liberal.

Your personality type is scum. If you had any friends, no that's stupid, you
have no friends. No need to wonder why. No need to waste further comment on
you. You're blocked from now on.

I am MOST impressed. You may be an annoying troll, but HOW did
you know I stop breathing when I think? (Makes it a /bit/
inconvenient to think long thoughts.)

No, YOU are the expert on thinking as this thread clearly
proves.

Thank you for top-posting, BTW.

Hmm. OK. Too bad. In you go, then. It might be as the others said--
plugged in wrong, bent pin, cracked motherboard, etc. Keep us informed.
How tough would it be to go back to the smaller power supply, in case
the floppies were somehow sensitive to that?
