Downloaded the image.
Burned image to a CD.
Booted from CD.
Selected "Start or Install" from menu.
System locked up with "Unsupported Video Mode"
Removed CD.
Placed CD in microwave.
Watched the CD sparkle. (The only thing Ubuntu 7.10 CD is good for)
Rebooted Vista.
Now I have a OS that works.

And the hardware was?

My microwave wouldn't start with the mugabe CD...says invalid for human
consumption

Is there a NG for complaints about mugabe?

Now for what stupid reason do you think he should post his hardware? What a
jerk you are. He already made his decision. He didn't ask for help. He was
making a statement.

You are really lame!

I Have Open Source Linux Ubuntu 7.10 Working Just Fine On Two Different
Computer's (An X64 Installation With An ATI Radeon X1300 Graphics Card,
And An X86 Installation With An Nvidia GeForce 8300GS Graphics Card),
Just FYI.

You are lucky. My system locked up period...with no message as to why.

My what a wonderful OS Ubuntu is....and this has happened with every
release.

No he's not. the OP made an accusation: Ubuntu is bad.
Charlie was asking for some reason behind the statement.
If you make accusations, you'd better have facts to back
them up. In this case, the hardware looks fairly standard
and so the assertion has merit. The only way to know that
however was to know the type of hardware.

Other than it wiping my 7.0.4 install (erased the entire disk) when it
installed 7.10, and that it picked a monitor frequency that was not
supported on the monitor, it installed just fine.

Quite so Tom. For some season my first install went bad also, no idea
why, but powering down and trying again worked and everything has been
fine since. On the other had I don't usually put CDs in the microwave to
dispose of them so maybe his idea of "Burning a CD" differs from ours :)

It would appear that the O/P really doesn't care. He decided NOT to use
Ubuntu. His choice.

I'm giving it (7.10) a shot but so far I am unhappy with it also.

Just so you know I tried to boot the CD five times with the same result.
I just thought having some fun with the CD in the microwave would give me
some enjoyment from Ubuntu.
And it did for about 15 seconds.

Well I did not have such flawless results with that versions as with the
previous version, perhaps a case of trying to run before we can walk. I
was far from impressed by the Beta previously, and I already found what
appears to be one bug :)

always living for the present never thinking of the future, what about the
enjoyment for tomorrow, eh?

Put one in the Toaster

I trashed a perfectly good installation of Win 2000 while installing it onto
an older machine. It runs ok but the video card allows for no fancy
graphics, not that I care.

Fancy graphics do not make up for the fact that it will not run the programs
I want it to run. Until it can, it will never be a replacement for my
Windows production machine.

So it sits there essentially as an exercise in futility. It has no features
or capability over and above Windows Vista, XP or 2000 that would make me
want to dual boot.

For third world countries, being free should make it popular except that
pirating Windows is more popular, and understandably so. Windows runs all
well known and popular programs. Why use an OS that doesn't?

Desktop versions of Linux are a world away from the business side, so do not
take what I am saying as a hit against Linux. It proves itself well in some
areas, and so it should. It is, after all, the much vaunted and highly
capable Unix ported to the cheap end of hardware.
