I receive an error message when trying to remove a registry key. I have
removed registry keys before and never had this problem.

It would help if you reported the exact error message
and said which key you're trying to remove. Remember -
we can't see your machine!

What key are you trying to remove?

Assuming that the unasked questions above are "why did I get the
message?" and "what should I do about it?" please help us to help you.

Nobody can help you with so little information. What key are you
trying to remove? Why? What is the exact verbatim text of the error
message you receive.

I asked three questions. You answered one.

If you want help, please answer *all* the questions I asked.

I am trying to remove the key because whenever I run my registry cleaner that
key comes up with the fact that it is a high priority for removal and the
only text I receive when I try to remove the key is the word error and no
other additional text.

Think your Registry needs "cleaning"? Read

My registry cleaner puts a check mark indicating the registry key for removal
and after I run the cleaner the registry key is still there and that is why I
tried to remove it manually and keep getting and error when I try to remove
it.

Then don't use a registry cleaner.

Then stop running your registry cleaner.

Registry cleaning programs are *all* snake oil. Cleaning of the
registry isn't needed and is dangerous. Leave the registry alone and
don't use any registry cleaner. Despite what many people think, and
what vendors of registry cleaning software try to convince you of,
having unused registry entries doesn't really hurt you.

The risk of a serious problem caused by a registry cleaner erroneously
removing an entry you need is far greater than any potential benefit
it may have.

I appreciate your response, however if all registry cleaning products are
snake oil as you suggest then why does Windows a Microsoft product offer a
registry cleaning product? I await your answer.

NO, they are not all snake oil. But yes, almost everyone is just a waste
of money. So use a free one if you need to.

You are correct. They are NOT all snake oil. They are however useless and
cause enormous problems.
Why would anyone 'need to'?
