Re: I can help you!

Somewhere in all these messages about this problem a link was given to
download this update manually from Microsoft. I think the following is the
link you want.
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...4f-088e-40b2-bbdb-a83353618b38&displaylang=en

I downloaded this update to my desktop from the link, created a restore
point, ran the download. Message showed it was a successful download. Then I
restarted, ran Windows Update and it showed no updates available for my
computer.

I am running Vista Biz 64 bit and getting this (80070002) error message on
install (not download). I don't have an install directory after all the
initial error message troubleshooting. My path looks more like this:
C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Download\39c3482088c02248b97e426bc96a0314
There is nothing there that will allow me to install the update manually.
The update desctiption is: Cumulative IE7 in Windows Vista x64-based Systems
(KB942615). Any suggestions? Thank you...

restore point

I am having trouble. Please help an idiot like me. I don't understand how to create a restore point without loosing the download. When do I restore to, so I still have the downloaded file?

I'm pretty sure *I* don't understand what it is you are asking. Try to
expand on what it is you are saying.

When you say 'without loosing the download' - losing what download?

When you speak of 'restore point' - are you speaking of "System Restore
Points"? If so - what version of Windows are you utilizing? Why do you
think you need to restore?

Expand as much as you can - don't worry about technical terminology - but
try to use the words you see when you are doing whatever process you are
trying to describe. Give methods and step-by-step examples if that helps...

Something like "I visit http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com and do a custom
installation and install updates. I am running Windows XP with SP2
installed. Now things are messed up and I need to use the "System Restore"
feature to go back to before they were messed up - but I don't want to lose
the updates I recently installed...." <-- anything to give people reading
more information on what it is you have, what it is you did to get you here
asking, what is is you want to accomplish...
