Can't turn on Windows Firewall

It's not uncommon to have problems after removing the McAfee Security Center.
The MSC takes over from the Windows Security Center and removing it doesn't always replace settings that the WSC had.
If McAfee wasn't installed too long ago, you could have tried a system restore ( to a date before McAfee was installed) after removing mcafee.

Ran the MS Fix it tool. That says a group policy or McAfee is preventing the Windows firewall from turning on
I wouldn't be surprised if there's still some odd McAfee remnants in the registry settings.

As things stand at the moment, you may be best to follow the advice to perform a non destructive reinstall.

Normally when I tell someone how bad McAfee is........ I let John McAfee speak for me:

John McAfee: McAfee antivirus is one of the worst products on the planet

and you can't argue with the author.....

I didn't get it fixed. Spent too much time trying to get it going.

Problem is I had customers scheduled for today and didn't have time to work on his machine. (It was an unusually busy week.) He wants it back. He's been living without a Firewall for some time. His McAfee was messed up. There wasn't much wrong with the machine.

If the customer want to do wipe and reload, I'll do that. Additionally, he has Adobe photo apps on here and doesn't have the original disks. So, I could try the W7 non-destructive repair, but I'm not willing to do that without a safety image of his hard drive. There's just no time for that.

Also, note that there are 83 important updates pending. They're not even downloading. Too much damage to the OS in my opinion.
