AV-Comparatives

Not sure what that is all about but the Security community thinks very highly of Emsisoft and it is the one product that really is for Virus and Spyware combined that I know really works. I ran it for a year on one pc here and was very impressed with it and I know Starbuck is a fan also.

In the test Emsisoft blocked 96.3% and gave 9 fake positives while Qihoo blocked 99.5% and no Fake positives.
I know which one I would choose if I needed a new AV.
Remember they are all on a level playing field so results are real.
I am more than happy with ESET

The reason I don't put much faith in the tests including the famed VB100 is that there are so many ways to measure the product and why I love NOd32 is the site protection I have never seen on another product. That is true "outside the box" protection because the problem never gets near the system, it simply gets avoided. I never went far enough testing Emsisoft to ascertain if it has that too though in day to day use I never saw any evidence it does. But however the WOT is so effective, in many cases another product never has a chance to react but I have seen NOd32 react before WOT whern both are on hand.

I don't know anything about that security option so i just learned something new and I thank you and DTSM for introducing me to it. I'm more on the corp side of security i don't know that much about new consumer grade AV's the past few years. I'm glad to hear we have a new consumer option actually. I will do some searching and research about Emisoft. Is it based on another AV's engine or is it using it's own?

I read this from their site.

"
The first engine (E1) is a creation of Emsisoft’s, the second one (E2) has been in use since we released Emsisoft Anti-Malware 7.0 and Emergency Kit 3.0 and comes from BitDefender. BitDefender is known for its very good detection rate as well as displaying few false alerts, which is why we use this third-party engine "

Dougie is right as of 2013 Emsisoft uses their own Command line Scanner for Malware and Bit Defender for virus. You can install it for a trial version and when the time is up it will run as a free scanner, just without the real time protection.
