error code 0x80073b01: I recently got this error message when I was trying to turn on Windows Defender, or start using it on my laptop. I have an Acer laptop that was pre-loaded with Windows 8 and I had been using Mcafee for my virus protection. Once the subscription ended, I uninstalled the program from my computer and I have tried a number of things to get the Windows Defender to work as my anti-virus/anti-spyware thing and everything I try to open has this same error message. I am able to get updates, and it has the troubleshooting options, which I do as an administrator, and it says that it fixed two different things, and to try what I was trying to do again. I keep trying and it still gives me the error message. Is there anything I can do to get Windows Defender to work on my computer? View this thread

I have been using a Microsoft Wireless Optical Desktop v2.0 for two years without a hitch. This morning, neither keyboard nor mouse would respond. When I plugged the wireless receiver into a different USB port, I got the message that the driver failed to install. Also, ever since, Windows Update keeps nagging me about an update to "Microsoft - Other hardware - Microsoft Wireless Optical Desktop 700 v2.0", but when I try to install it, the installation fails with an error "WindowsUpdate_800F020B" "WindowsUpdate_dt000", which as I understand, says that a newer driver is installed already. Anyone have any clue what to do here? View the thread

My home laptop, which was running Windows 7 Home Premium, had some hard disk problems. I resolved these but I had to do a clean install of Windows. I used a setup disk I had from work, but this was for Windows 7 Enterprise. Now I'm stuck because I can't activate Windows. I have the licence key for the original Windows installation but this won't work with the upgraded install. The online activation wizard can't connect me to a store to buy a new licence key, which I don't really want to do anyway. What I want to do is either downgrade back to Home Premium somehow or maybe buy an upgrade to Windows 7 Ultimate (if this would allow me to activate Windows 7 Enterprise). Help please. OK, this isn't a question per se, since I've already solved it myself, but I thought I would share what I've learned. Within the last week or so, quite a few people had been having problems with flash content when online and a couple had noted that this update was installed right before their problems began. My problems just began today, but I had just gotten around to installing this update earlier today.The exact issue was 100% crashing of flash content, and couldn't play any downloaded videos on windows media player, (there may have been other issues, these were the only ones I noticed before fixing it). I have Windows 7 Ultimate (x64), adobe flash is updated to version 11.7, firefox is updated to version 20.0.1. Some people had gotten flash to work again by disabling hardware acceleration in firefox and/or adobe flash. Neither of these solutions worked for me, and having found nothing amiss after running virus and malware scans, decided to check the update I installed since that was the only other recent change to my system. The update was KB2840149, and was apparently a re-release of an earlier update that was horribly botched and cause some pretty severe problems for other users. I have no idea if I ever had the other update, if I did, it didn't cause me any trouble. Anyways, I uninstalled KB2840149, rebooted the computer and everything worked perfectly fine again. I hid the update for now so that Windows won't keep nagging me to install it. Apparently this update still has some issues, or is negatively interacting with something else, either way I'm skipping it until I know of a way to have it installed without it bjorking up anything on my computer. My os is Vista home basic, genuine MS license. Neither Vista SP 1 or sp 2 are, installed because windows update has never been used. My anti virus is Avast free version, in addition to defender. I connect to Internet directly, without a proxy. Please help. View this thread

Firstly, some profiling on my computer: Computer: ASUS K53S OS: Windows 7 64-Bit Home Premium. I recently downloaded the game FIFA 13 off the internet. After downloading the game using uTorrent in an .iso format, I discovered that it contained the virus Virtool: Win32/Obfuscator.XZ. I opened the file using PowerISO and discovered that the virus was present in my Crack folder in the file rld .dll. I then attempted to solve the problem by Quarantining the file using MSE. However, "Access was denied." After some recommendations, I downloaded Malwarebytes and tried to solve the problem with that. However, Malwarebytes did not discover a virus after I targeted the .iso file or the .dll file. NOr did anything show up after a quick scan. I have not yet had time to run a full scan. Do I have anything to worry about? View this thread

When I boot, I get a black screen with white text asking me to pick a system to start - and a timer counting down. I've got two identical choices (worded identically - Microsoft Windows XP .. to that effect). Selecting the first loads my Windows XP. The second appears to load an older version and prompts to select Admin or (other)User. Selecting either is as far as it will let me go. There is no program or OS backing this up. All I want to know is, how can I eliminate the second choice. It's not causing problems, just want to tidy it up a bit. View this thread

Old XP laptop crashed - got new hard-drive, installed XP from recovery discs. Tried to update XP. Windows Update said I needed to get IE8 as IE6 was reinstalled in recovery process. 16.1MB file downloads but nothing happens after? Update says I cannot install service packs from IE6? My computer was running slow so I uninstalled programs and deleted all my files, now I am getting the Octoshapeclient.exe: failed to launch error message each time I turn on my pc, I have Vista.I ran a Spybot scan and a Norton scan, still receiving the Octoshape error.
