What could make a service on a Windows Server 2003

create a 0-sized (ie empty) <processname>.<pid>.mdmp file

on exit. On another system (both are Win Server 2k SP2)

this does not happen. It happens when the process exits cleanly

itself or if it is stopped using the windows service management console.

I had a look at patch differences between both systems and

nothing seems to be related to those empty .mdmp files.

The service runs fine in any other respect, it's just these

files being generated whenever it is stopped.

Any hints could be appreciated
