Corrupt file names

I noticed that I have a large number of files with corrupted names on

one of our servers. Most of them have dots underneath some letters in

file names. If the dot is below the last letter I can just put the

prompt at the end of the file name and hit backspace once which

removes the dot but not the last letter fixing the file name in this

way.

Any idea what might have caused that problem? We have a mixed Windows

MacOS environment so I also wandering whether that's not the source of

the problem.
