Posted August 17, 200816 yr Hi i did a fresh install of VIsta ultimate 64 yesterday i when i received the computer there were no partitions set up, i was wanting to use bitlocker and i was having a few issues with the profile that was orignally set up so i decided to reinstall. After reinstalling Vista ultimate and updating all the drivers and loading my programs i switched the computer on this morning to find a black screen with the following error message c:\windows\system32\config\systemprofile\desktop refers to a location that is unavailable. it could be on a hard drive on this computer.or on a network. check to make sure that the disk is properly inserted, or that you are connected to the internet or your network and then try again. if it still cannot be located the information might have been moved to a different location. I followed the path to the systemprofile\desktop location and sure enough there was no desktop folder there. I then went to C:\Users\me and copied the desktop file and pasted it in the location where it was missing. i got a message saying the file is already in that location even though it wasnt showing and do i want to replace the file or keep both. I chose keep both. This seems to have fixed the problem but i have no idea why it happended in the first place! is there a problem with how i have installed vista on my machine? has anyone any idea? -- sypher007
