3 or 4 couple of weeks ago, I dug around this horrid HP J6410 XP driver to

set it for A4 - to solve a problem with paper size i.e. the defaults set in

it were for American "Letter" sized paper, and invoicing software print-out

was out of position. To correct that, I set A4 paper size in 3 places, (in

the HP driver), in "Printing Preferences" and "Properties."

Yesterday, after abandoning the idea of "transplanting" an aged XP Home

platform onto significantly different and newer hardware,

e.g. http://www.theeldergeek.com/replace_motherboard.htm

I took the "preferred," but, more time consuming, route of a fresh XP

install, adn reinstalling EVERYTHING :-(

After installing the HP 6410, ((always) HIDEOUS HP drivers / software IMHO),

the previous "paper size" problem emerged when printing invoices. I

immediately launched into a fight with that HP Printer driver, and could

only find two place to set "A4," compared to a few weeks ago, when after a

lot of digging and going around in circles in that damned driver, I found a

"third" setting.

So now when looking at that HP printer driver settings, A4 is set in two

places, and there is small grey "pane" on one of the screens, (in printer

driver "properties," containing the solitary word "Letter" ...for paper

size.

The "Advanced Options" setting is "On," which means that that an options

"tree" with little drop-down menus is fully displayed but, I simply cannot

find that third location, in that driver, for that "third" setting !

(the owner has only very recently bought that HP J6410)

.....any tips hugely appreciated.

regards, Richard
