I install IIS 7, I have an FTP site running and under the Default FTP site I added a virtual directory.

But I get a permissions error when I try to connect to

ftp://Server.net/Test

When I have the default web site selected the name and path of my virtual directory are in the right list pane. But when I select the "Test" virtual directory nothing shows up. I would think it would show the text doc I put in there for testing. If I right click and select explore I see my sub directory and my text doc, if I select browse I get the 550 error - Access denied.

Thanks,

Phil

Well come to find out I walked thru the policy wizrd and I think that is what messed everything up. I figured this out when I uninstalled the FTP and install the latest version for IIS 7 from MSDN. Then I got all kinds of error of service not running. So I reinstalled and I now have it working via localhost.

But I cannot access it from the outside. I went into the firewall and created an FTP entry and let set it to allow connections on port 21. Still no luck.

I would of thought that installing the FTP app would of opened everything it needed by default.

This is what I installed and I did the walkthrus do get it up and running. But even the walkthru uses localhost and not an external IP.

What error are you getting when connecting via the internet? Are you logging incoming traffic on your firewall to see if you are even getting past it? What client are you using? Try using "My Computer" or "Windows Explorer" NOT "IE". Personally I use Serv-U, it's very easy to setup and administer.
