Notebook: Toshiba Satellite P105-S6147

O/S: Vista Home Premium SP1 32-bit

RAM: 2GB

CPU: 1.67Ghz Intel Core Duo

Optical Drive: MATSHITA DVD-RAM UJ-850S ATA Device

After downloading the newest iTunes + Quicktime package I am unable to

access my optical drive. The drive is recognized in device manager and says

to be working properly, however when putting a disc in the drive the

contents come to a standstill and are never read. If I attempt to close out

the Windows Explorer window (with the disc in the drive) it causes Windows

Explorer to stop working and restart. When Windows Explorer restarts it

does not restart properly (no start menu, taskbar, quick launch etc) unless

the disc is removed from the optical drive.

I uninstalled iTunes & Quicktime (without restarting) to see if this would

make my optical drive read DVD info and this did not work. So, I did a

system restore to before installing iTunes 7.5 and my optical drive now

works. I had performed the registry edit that removed the upper/lower

filters (which allowed the drive to work with previous iTunes installs), but

that did not seem to be the solution this time. I need iTunes to perform

updates on my iPhone, so I sort of need the installation. I was wondering

if anyone else was having this problem, or if there was another registry

fix? Or am I resigned to installing iTunes then performing a system restore

after receiving updates?

Thanks for your help.
