mranderson Posted June 2, 2008 Posted June 2, 2008 I was looking to run a machine with Windows Server 2008 Standard Edition as a web server. Is there anything you can tell me I need to know if I colocated a server? i.e.-Is the Windows Advanced firewall good enough or would I need an external firewall to be secure? Any information would be appreciated. Quote
FPCH Admin AWS Posted June 3, 2008 FPCH Admin Posted June 3, 2008 You don't need any added protection, but, I am one that believes that one can never be too protected. I use a hardware firewall as well as Windows firewall. The only thing you need to know is make sure the company you colo with has good security. You don't want anyone to have access to your server except the network people. I prefer using a local company so I have physical access to the server when I need it. In case of a hardware failure it's always better to be able to drive a few miles with the replacements then to ship it off somewhere. Downtime is held to a minimum.
