You are a unpaid huckster for Microsoft. Between you and Frank, hard

I downloaded the one on the left that turned out to be a 127 page

A router or any FW is not going to protect you from spyware, Trojan or

a worm when you initiate the actions that lead to the compromise of the

computer by not practicing safe hex.

http://blog.wired.com/underwire/2007/05/hundreds_click_.html

You see when you have a computer that's setting behind the router and

you click on something at a Website with a browser, then the browser has

sent outbound traffic to the site from the computer. That's called a

solicitation for inbound traffic from a remote site. The router or FW is

going to allow all inbound traffic that has been solicited. The router

or the FW is not going to check for any content of the data that's

coming from the site. It is going to allow that inbound traffic back to

the machine and to the program running (the browser in this case) that

made the solicitation.

Unsolicited traffic is any inbound traffic that has not been solicited,

as indicated above, by a computer that has a program that made the

solicitation. That kind of traffic is going to be blocked by the router

or FW. Unsolicited traffic inbound can be from self-populating worms,

hackers etc that scan the Internet and are trying to find unprotected

machines, ones that are not protected by a router or a FW. The router or

FW is going to block unsolicited inbound traffic by default.

http://www.claymania.com/safe-hex.html

So you must be careful with your actions that could lead to the

compromise of the machine, because 99% of the time, it is you that has

clicked on something at a Web site or in an email that has installed

something on the machine that starts the solicitation from the computer,

which no router or FW is going to stop the solicited inbound traffic by

default.

Your second problem is that your router is a wireless solution, which

means that if you have not protected the wireless on the router, then

someone can hack your network, join it, and hack your machines that way.

For what it's worth, you should try to do something on the wireless to

try to protect the network wired or wireless when wireless is involved.

Unfortunately for MS, Windows' future is not comparable to a

thoroughbred race horse or a Clydesdale for Budweiser.

And unfortunately for you, you have made a bad, unacceptable analogy.

Try comparing apples to apples instead of apples to sour grapes!...LOL!

Loser!

I believe he is talking about NAT, not a hardware firewall built into the

router.

There has to be another reason!

John John (MVP) is on the other side of the spectrum. He reckons 3rd party

Well, based on your demonstrated lack of knowledge on how

a low-end consumer-grade router works, that could take a while.

Technical folks are standing by...

Chris

He's talking about the *software* firewall sitting on top of the router's OS

which is installed on/in its hardware. I still don't understand what a

"hardware firewall" is. I don't think there is any such thing.

Anyway, that's what he's talking about, as you would know if you'd read the

manual, too.

You proly have an infected linux box and don't even know it and don't

known how to even find out if you do.
