Posted July 19, 200816 yr PROBLEM RESOLVED! I uninstalled the SP3, then did some basic troubleshooting of my cd-rom drive...it appears that the problem was in the registry files..I got an error message when I accessed this :"_NEC NR-7800A properties (Code 39)" saying the device driver may be corrupted or missing. So, with that in mind I went to http://www.dell.com typed in the 'Code 39' which led me to the http://www.microsoft.com fix titled 'Guided Help'...simple as that, it fixed it and my cd-rom is now working like usual. Hope this helps anyone else who may have the same problem. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ "Lou 62" wrote: > Hi, I have a Dell Dimension 4300S, with Windows XP (home edition).....I just > recently installed the latest Service Pack for Windows using Internet > Explorer...and these problems started popping up...(could be coincidental?) > > Upon restart the black screen pops up with the C prompt, but the top of that > screen is titled "veclsid.exe".....I can't do anything at the C prompt but > close out of that screen, I took the advice found somewhere on the forum > stating to rename it as 'veclsid.old'...I tried that and it worked but > starting having other problems so I changed it back. > > My real problem now is that I have lost access to my 'D' drive..it has > worked fine before and now it won't even show in any of the usual places to > access that drive to save to disc or even play on AutoRun. > > Help! > > Do I have to do a system restore?
