Clicking Icon opens wrong application or folder

Windows Vista Home Premium installed.

I have a strange problem. Every now and again when I click on an icon or

folder either on my desktop or explorer it opens up a different folder or

application.

example : I just clicked on the Recycle Bin on my desktop and it opened

Windows Live Mail. All I have to do is close and reclick and all is back to

normal. Its become a very pesty bug... which doesn't happen all the time,

but often enough to become bothersome.

Any suggestions?
