Keep losing the fax function

Over the last three months or so the fax facility has been playing up. When I

attempt to launch it from Winword the wizard starts then freezes, so I need

Task Manager to get out of it if I launch from the Desktop the console comes

up but will not display any files. The only way I can get it back is to do a

system restore, and the next time I switch on the fax will be gone again.

I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the windows component and the modem

driver but I still have to do a restore every time I want to send a fax. Is

it a glitch in the boot process, and if so how on earth do I find it?
