Hello all

I've been posting to ...windows.vista.general but have not gotten an

answer to my problem, so that might have been the wrong group. Maybe

this one is better? I'm sorry if anyone feels spammed.. :-)

Here's my problem: When trying to backup my C: drive, backup fails

with an unexpected error. Through the event log, I can see that the

error is caused by VSS, which reports event 12293 with hr =

0x800706be. "Vssadmin list writers" shows that some writers have

troubles:

- System Writer [7 - Failed]

- MSSearch Service Writer [7 - Failed]

- WMI Writer [7 - Failed]

Furthermore, I receive error dialog boxes saying that "host process

for Windows-Services has been stopped and

closed" (might not be the exact words, I tried to translate that from

german...), along with an event log entry of svchost.dll saying that

it's got a "faulty" module swprv.dll.

How do I debug these things, is this even the source of my problem?

I have noticed that the problem *might* be there since I removed

another hard disk from the computer. But, neither removing the drive

from the list of drives supporting restore points (never checked it in

the first place anyway) nor putting the drive back into the PC fixed

anything.

What can I do?

Thanks a lot!

Bernhard
