If you say so. The only thing worse is you and your fellow smacktards that

Unfortunately it would seem that the smacktards are too young, or too

stupid, or both perhaps to remember what has happened in the past. The same

thing gets said over and over. Most of them think that just because they can

pop a card in or load Linux or whatever it makes them some kind of expert.

They have never supported anything, or done anything that requires any

skill. It is truly sad.

Let's see. How bout lack of support for ACPI 2.4 for one. My son in law

tried loading it on his machine, Ubuntu won't even boot. Mandriva does,

2000, XP, and Vista all run fine. Linux has less than a 1% market share on

the desktop after 15 years, and it is free. THAT is not ready for prime

time.

> Lets compare Vista Premium to Ubuntu

>

> Office Tools:

> MS Office, $400 -> OpenOffice n/c

OO is slower, and has compatibility issues. Since the de facto standard in

the productivity suite arena IS MS Office, that makes OO useless for most

people.

> Backups:

> MS, none, OEM might supply something. -> Linux, included.

What was NTBackup then? Don't about you, but my Vista shipped with a backup

solution, yeah Acer included some too, but it has it. Not our fault that you

can't even load your OS correctly.

> Browsers:

> MS IE 7 or 8 -> Firefox and others

Funny, can also run Opera, Firefox, and Safari on Vista.

> Mail

> MS Mail -> Linux Evolution

Evolution is and always has been a 3rd party application. Created by Ximian,

now owned by Novell.

> Encryption:

> MS nonportable -> PGP and others, portable

Last I heard you could run PGP on Windows. Started as an MS based program,

and was subsequently ported to Linux.

> Text Terminal Services

> MS broken telnet, insecure -> Linux, Secure Shell

Let's do a little research shall we? If you are running plain telnet if

security is a concern, you're too stupid to be running a system anyway.

There ARE solutions for MS.

> Database:

> MS extra $$$ -> Linux, MySQL, PostgrSQL and others n/c

Most home users don't need a database per se. Personally I run Firebird for

SAM because MySQL is slower than hell. Anyway, the de facto standard in that

area is Oracle anyway, and IT costs out the ass no matter what it runs

under. Not to mention even MS SQL is far and a away a better choice than any

of the Linux offerings. You get what you pay for.

> Performance

> MS slowwwww -> Linux fast.

Funny, never had a speed problem with anything. Not our problem that you

cannot set up an operating system correctly.

> I could go on for 20 more.... save me the time and tell me what Vista can

> do that Ubuntu does not have a viable and possibly much better

> alternative. We can then set the users straight.

And I can shoot down each one of them, just like I have with other

smacktards when they bring up the 25,000 free programs that come with Linux.

Hell I can make Solaris run reasonably well. Doesn't mean I am as productive

on it, as I am with Vista, or XP, or anything else. Viable for YOU, may not

be the same for everyone else. Does Linux have similar programs to MS

offerings. Yep, sure do. Are they as capable? The overwhelming majority of

them, hell no. Just thought of something since I mentioned it earlier. Name

one Linux offering that is close to being as capable as SAM Broadcaster.

EVERY OS has bugs. There is not one without problems. So by that standard,

what exactly are we supposed to use, an abacus?
