I use it for a lot more than that.

Some other uses:

Burning CD/DVDs

Music management, including ripping off cds.

IM with MSN, Yahoo, ICQ and AIM all in one program.

Office processes like word processing, data bases, illustrative

presentations and spreadsheets.

Making videos

Watching videos and DVDs

HTML editing

PDF creation

Ripping songs off Internet radio

Ripping videos off places like You Tube

Games like Solitaire, Spider Solitaire, Tetris, Chess, Blackjack, etc.

Configuring printers and scanners out of the box.

Configuring wireless Internet out of the box.

There's a lot more. What it won't do is run games made only for Windows

and it won't run Windows Product Activation or Windows Genuine

Advantage. For some reason, it refuses to run those programs.

> Otherwise it is useless.

No, you're useless because you can't install Ubuntu which is soooooooo

easy to install. You and Frank make an excellent example of a

dysfunctional tag team.

To spread the good news that one doesn't have to use Windows and can use

a much superior operating system like Ubuntu, what else?

Like what?

Lets compare Vista Premium to Ubuntu

Office Tools:

MS Office, $400 -> OpenOffice n/c

Backups:

MS, none, OEM might supply something. -> Linux, included.

Browsers:

MS IE 7 or 8 -> Firefox and others

Mail

MS Mail -> Linux Evolution

Encryption:

MS nonportable -> PGP and others, portable

Text Terminal Services

MS broken telnet, insecure -> Linux, Secure Shell

Database:

MS extra $$$ -> Linux, MySQL, PostgrSQL and others n/c

Performance

MS slowwwww -> Linux fast.

I could go on for 20 more.... save me the time and tell me what Vista can do

that Ubuntu does not have a viable and possibly much better alternative. We

can then set the users straight.

It can do this, Mr Rocket Scientist:

Burning CD/DVDs

Music management, including ripping off cds.

IM with MSN, Yahoo, ICQ and AIM all in one program.

Office processes like word processing, data bases, illustrative

Making videos

I think you need to up your medication. Ubuntu is not a superior OS.

Ubuntu is a basic OS for people who want to do basic tasks with their

computer. Lexus is a superior vehicle. Lots of nice features, big price,

but you get quality. Now, a Ford Fiesta is a vehicle that can get you there

with few features, small price, and hardly any quality.

I would compare Ubuntu to the Ford and Vista to the Lexus but with Ubuntu,

you can only drive on 3% of the roads!

Work in progress, so perfectly acceptable for MS to sell it even if its not

fully functional. Is that what you are saying Frank?

Linux has had wireless for many years now. 54g was initially a big issue

years ago as many vendors like Broadcom refused to disclose the needs or

existing Linux source to use many of their chips.

But others like Atheros based, my AG650 scream. If you select them right,

they just work. Much of the work has been spun off of projects like OpenBSD

that have real good wireless support where the vendors cooperate at all.

You are correct, if you can't install Ubuntu, you had better stick to

pre-installed -- much easier than Vista.

Wrong. I installed it with no problems. The problem was not being able to

run anything of value on it. You still don't understand and probably never

will. You continue to twist the truth but what else can we expect from the

Ubuntu Marketing Department.

Keep trying to shove Ubuntu down our throats. A FREE product that people

try and discard. That is the truth. The numbers don't lie. If Ubuntu was

such a bargain, instead of 100 million people using Vista, there would be

100 million new Ubuntu users. NOT. NOT in a million years. Get over it.

OK Mr. Rocket Scientist, tell me why then with Ubuntu being FREE, why isn't

it the leader on the desktop? I'll tell you why. Because it doesn't run

the mainstream programs. Ubuntu is not easy for most to navigate and get the

help they need. They just can't hold a candle to MS in that department.

Ubuntu may be able to do the things you say, but it doesn't run mainstream

apps.

Oh yea, did I say that Ubuntu is FREE and Most don't want it? Maybe I need

to say that 1,000,000 more times before you get it through your OpenSores

head.

No marketing machine like MS has. It is growing, though, via

word-of-mouth which, in the end, is the best advertising.

From a banking point of view, GNUCash. Much easier to backup and restore

too.

If you must have Intuit, load wine, a windows compatibility layer. Intuit

is also moving away from this and web basing their services. Which will

also work with Linux.
