Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer has admitted that Windows Vista is an incomplete

product, even though the operating system has been on the market for more

than a year.

Speaking at the firm's annual Most Valuable Professionals event in Seattle

yesterday, Big Steve told the gathered crowd that the unloved OS was "a work

in progress". According to reports, he also promised that Microsoft would

learn from the mistakes it has made with Vista.

No, Steve Ballmer did not say "Windows Vista is an incomplete product".

All operating systems are a "work in progress"....every single one!

And you can always sue MS for your money back, but would that be worth

the aggravation, especially since by the time the court rules, most

people will be using Windows 10?

They would nail you for legal fees, and their legal team would ring up a lot

of hours on purpose to make sure they put you in the poor house when all was

said and done. All Microsoft operating systems have been "work in

progress". A currently stable version of Windows 2000 is SP4 and gets

updates from the web site every month. XP is SP2.

At this point in time, if you want stability, you can "downgrade" just

about any (maybe all) machines on the market to XP SP2 without any serious

problems.

Unless you are claiming that Balmer is too stupid to know what "work in

progress" actually means, then he did mean that Vista is an incomplete

product by calling it a "work in progress."

> All operating systems are a "work in progress"....every single one!

Really? Or are they complete products that have flaws?

Do you really think Steve Jobs would be stupid enough to characterize OSX

as a "work in progress?"

Vista should be shot and put out of our misery just for that assault to

the ears.

Though I do find it interesting that MS is hosting that abomination in

the mp3 format, not in their own wm format.

Big deal...life is a "work in progress'...!

Frank

Yes, and the comparison to XP as something different from that progress is

pretty funny. I think in looking for a name for 'pre SP2 XP', the name

'firewall-less self replicating zombie' springs to mind. I can easily see

the future for the Win7, when the spambabies are longing for the

'versatility and beauty' of 'good old Vista'.

Well, by then Vista SP2 should be out, and maybe by then Vista might not

be so ugly.

Though after Vista, I doubt MS will make as many mistakes with Win7.

You mean like the idiots who felt that way over Windows Me? Personally,

I will never run Vista or 7 and hardly run XP anymore. I've moved on to

Yes, you moved to an OS that can only be used for E-Mail and Web Surfing.

Yes. This DRM/HDMI stuff is enough to drive you to Linux.

But Alias, I would side with you. They haven't even really fully examined

or fixed Vista but are into full scale Win7 development. This tells me to

expect more of the same.

If you take out "have more anti piracy crap and a lot more bloat," I'd

take that bet. Unless they tap GWBush as Balmer's replacement in 2009,

there is no way MS can make more mistakes than they did with Vista.

While I do agree with you, life is a "work in progress". I would have

thought **if** commercial software was so freaking good, 5+ years in

development with many billions spent, Vista should have been much better

than it is.

But turns out many Linux distos have better quality and polish. Ubuntu is

fantastic this way. It also highlights that open source is the tortoise,

Microsoft is the hare.

Expect for Windows-based gaming, it does everything most home users would

want to do with their computers.

But you can't play PS3 games on an Xbox either, so it isn't an unusual

By putting out a better OS every 6 months, they will make their older

versions look screwed up by comparison.

As opposed to MS that took nearly 6 years to make XP look good, by

putting out the turd that is Vista.

I think I'd rather have an OS developed on the former model, not the

latter.

No, but knowing that the majority of programs users want to run and Ubuntu

Better for who? Ubuntu still can't run the majority of programs that most

users need. They could release a new version every week and it still won't

matter. Remember, Ubuntu is FREE and the people are not rushing to it. I

guess the majority of people have come to the same conculusion. Ubuntu is a

pile. Not ready for prime time.

The new version, Hardy Heron, now does wireless out of the box. It does

most printers out of the box. It is not for geeks anymore. The fact that

you're too stupid to install Ubuntu writes volumes about you because

it's sooooooooooooooo easy to install.

And, you're very wrong about people not wanting it. I have three

machines sitting on a table install Ubuntu right now and ten more this

week. I can't keep up!

Again being a Ubuntu user you can't remember things and keep posting things

that are not true. That is your way of justifying Ubuntu. We all know that

Ubuntu is a piece of crap. I keep telling you time and time again that I

had a successful install of Ubuntu. I evaluated Ubuntu and found it to a

piece of crap. Just like millions of others who get this FREE product and

discard it. You are too stupid to figure that out. That speaks volumes

about YOU. Especially when you are so hard up to try and preach Ubuntu to

the vista users. Get a life.
