As you have probably heard its not Vista or MS that doesn't have drivers, it's

the manufacturer of your scanner and webcam that should have either provided

drivers to MS or their users. Clearly they want you to purchase new

hardware.

Once again its not a MS problem.

Psychology101 people who like to "belittle" others in order to make

themslves look "big" are the ones with Inferior Complex. They are

pre-empting to hide their ineptness.

We always have people with wrong skill in wrong line of jobs. In this

case, wrong people in complaint dept. It's personnel problem, please

don't blame the products.

Relax, don't let silly thing/people bother you. Life is short.

The Live CD runs then you are screwed because your wireless network does not

work to get any updates or drivers. I install the OS and the problem is

still there now what?

How about you ask in an UBUNTU forum?

Hello asshole, I mean Gordon.

First - I have been in IT for over 20 years,

2nd. I visited the website for the manufacturer of both the scanner and the

webcam. Both have stated there will be no device drivers for Vista.

3rd - yes, I did take a crap this morning, sorry I failed to mention that in

my original post.

The point I was trying to make is that software companies come out with all

these new *wonderful* operating systems to make things *better*, but in order

to take advantage of those operating systems, you usually need to upgrade all

your hardware. This of course makes all the hardware manufacturers VERY

happy, because they get to sell more over-priced stuff that would've

otherwise sat on their shelves because everything was fine with what they had.

For those who genuinely cared about the situation, thank you.

The scanner is a Visioneer 9000, USB.

The webcam is a logictech, basic IM cam.

For those of you related to Gordon who have nothing better to do - get a life.

A troll???

well, again I happen to think you are an ASSHOLE.

ok?

Would not own a dell, yes, yes - both are no longer supported by their

companies but they do provide links to by NEW equipment.

And this is not my first issue with Vista. Media Player 11 had several

issues with buffering. Got no ASSistance looking through these forums, and

got no help from Microsoft because the software was OEM. Both my ISP and

the PC manufacturer spent several hours with me determining there was no

other issue with the PC or internet connection, but was in fact a software

issue.

Bill,

Q. Why would Vista not allow for backward compatible drivers so that

existing equipment would be supported?

A. Because Microsoft conspires with hardware companies so that everyone

will have to do what Adam posted, and spend tons of money just to keep doing,

what they've always done!

I am not asking for help. I am making a point that Ubuntu is useless and

does not work as some that post in this NG would like us to believe. If I

was not happy with XP pro and Vista I would go with an Apple system like a

Mac Pro.

DELL, for one, still offers a selection of computers for sale with xp

rather than vista installed. They also offer several with Ubuntu Linux

installed in place of any MS offering.

Actually, I suspect Microsoft encourages it. If they were smart they would

let vendors boot up and ask the user which OS they want, "Will that be

Vista, XP or other".

But Microsoft enjoys it when users are not happy with Vista and re-purchase

a second OS called XP. Gives them more revenue. This isn't customer

friendly.

If it were me, I believe I would raise heck with the scanner mfg, for NOT

developing drivers, for Vista, on just a 2 year old scanner.

Same with the webcam, although if it is an older one probably

understandable, those things pretty cheap these days.

I have an HP Printer/scanner that is even older than two years, that they

offered Vista drivers for, even for 64 bit Vista that I am running.

My system:

HP Pavilion a1748x (refurbished)...$369 (Vista Home Premium preinstalled)

2GB 667MHz RAM............................ 82

ATI 512MB Radeon HD 2600 Pro......78

Total.................................................. $529

My 5-year old HP 2110 PSC All-in-One worked fine with

Vista, but it recently died. Found a bargain at OfficeMax for

a discontinued HP Photosmart C5180 All-in -One for

only $95.

Specs:

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c00841366&lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en&product=3352647&lang=en

Having a dual-core CPU really makes a difference running Vista.

My old P4 3.0GHZ system worked well with Vista, but the dual-

core system handles Vista much, much better.

It seems most computer manufacturers install the slow

533MHz RAM. Upgrading to 667 or 800 MHz RAM

makes a huge difference in Vista's performance.

My HP Pavilion a1748x has been a rock-solid performer

and never had a difficulties...no blue screens, no freeze-ups,

absolutely nothing to complain about.

Reality check:

Cost of Vista Home Premium.... apx $120

add 1 GM memory............... apx $110

new printer................... apx $150

new scanner................... apx $ 80

new wecam..................... apx $ 40

$680

Aggravation and time to get all

this new stuff to work......... priceless

Doesn't prove any point. If you talk to any major

printer/scanner manufacturer, they will say the average

lifecycle for their products is about 3 years. They

do not want to continually develope new drivers

for legacy hardware because they want you to purchase

new hardware. That's just a fact of life.

Thanks Don, and I did.

As stated, I purchased the thing 2 years ago, after the previous one from

the same manufacturer died. Now they offer only 2 'home' user scanners, the

cheapest at about $85. I told them they obviously were not interested in

the home user market. The response?

is there anything else I can help you with

False. In many cases Windows XP drivers do actually work, its the

manufacturers setup applications that detect an OS they weren't expecting

and fail.

Yeah, that sucks, unfortunately that is the way many manufacturers go these

days.

I believe I would stay away from them.

Have you tried installing the XP drivers for your hardware using

compatibility mode?

Software can be written to include specific identifiers which essentially

stop it installing on an OS not recognized.

Microsoft do NOT conspire with peripheral hardware manufacturers. The

hardware manufacturers use a change in OS to get some new sales. It is not

in the interests of hardware manufacturers to continually provide drivers

for older equipment. At some point, they need to generate new sales.
