Sorry, bud, but this was just not my experience. Vista simply

installed. PERIOD. In fact, this has been my experience with Vista

since the betas. NEVER a problem with installation.

IF those users DID have problems, I suggest a few things to correct

them:

1) Go back to school, and learn a little about computer basics.

2) Stop using the devices YOU want to use, and use the ones Microsoft

recommends in its Vista HCL.

3) Stop trying to TWEAK the OS so much. Accept it as it is, warts and

all.

4) Stop your INCESSANT complaining, and LISTEN to true experts, rather

than hobbyists like yourselves. Remember, its VERY HARD to LISTEN,

when your MOUTH is running all the time.

A Wise man LISTENS, while a foolish man never stops complaining.

>Vista at all. Pathetic.

That statement shows your obvious bias against anyone who does not

share your opinion about Vista or Microsoft, friend.

1) You assume that I am a "Microsoft fan". This is NOT the case, as

an examination of my posts over the last several years will show you.

2) The "place to complain" is NOT in a peer-user group on the Usenet.

It is to MICROSOFT, Inc. itself. While a few Microsoft employees DO

visit these forums from time to time, they do so as PRIVATE CITIZENS,

and NOT as "official" representatives of Microsoft. Your complaints

are being LOST on a bunch of folks like yourself.

3) Something tells me that you weren't even born when I started using

computers. I doubt seriously whether you have the "extensive

experience" you are trying to characterize yourself as having, else

you wouldn't have the problems you claim to be having.

4) That these people are having problems I do not doubt. Vista is a

highly-complex OS, and NOT easily handled by people whose "extensive"

experience is mostly in using a computer at work, where any problems

with the machine are handled by an over-worked Tech support person.

5) Being a HOBBYIST does NOT make one a "highly-skilled" computer

operator. In fact, from my point of view, hobbyists are the ones who

have the LEAST amount of "extensive experience". It seem that THEY

are the ones who are complaining the loudest, and mostly because of

Microsoft's anti-piracy measures.

Microsoft Windows is the ONLY ubiquitous OS around, and has been since

Windows 3.11. Countless millions of copies of Windows have been

distributed since then, with the majority of Windows users extremely

happy with the OS. Why? Because of the EASE of installation of the

OS, as well as the ability of Windows to use a LARGE number of

devices, rather than a small superset, like in OS X.

You, friend, are certainly in the MINORITY of folks having problems,

since the MAJORITY of sales of Vista have been to very happy folks,

who've had FEW problems with the OS itself, and MORE than a few

problems with software and devices which WEREN'T ready for Vista, and

STILL aren't. This is NOT Microsoft's fault. That Microsoft is

accentuating the POSITIVES of its OS is just human, and nothing YOU

wouldn't do when trying to "make a sale".

If you don't like Windows, friend, go buy an Apple.

Something tells me, though, if you DO buy an Apple, you will be one of

the FEW who are complaining about it, just as you've been one of the

FEW complaining about Windows.

I don't post in Usenet.. and top posting is the normal and preferred method in

all MS newsgroups. But.. like I said, some are just too immature to understand

that, as you abundantly demonstrate.

BTW... even on Usenet, the standard (which is approved by Good Net-Keeping Seal

of Approval (GNKSA - see item 15 in posted url below) is to use a (two hyphens,

a space, and a return) signature delimiter so that newsgroup & email readers can

(if desired) automatically mark and remove the sig block in replies.

http://www.gnksa.org/gnksa.txt

Yes.. you *can* can post here as much as your little heart desires - the

difference is that some have the maturity and intelligence to respect others,

and some don't.. :)

Of course, Frank the Wank can't name one lie or show us one spam of

mine, much less prove I am a bigot. In addition, Frank the Wank keeps

claiming I'm a Mexican and therefore inferior. Frank the Wank is getting

famous for projecting.

No, they are not "factual truths" (didn't they teach you about

redundancy in school, Wank?).

Please cite where top posting is the "preferred method in all MS

newsgroups."

If you cannot, then is making sh*t up really mature?

Yep, and top posting breaks that so that everything below the sig, the

post you are replying to, gets removed along with the sig.

Just so you will know from now on, "artfudd".

1) ALL MSNEWGROUPS are served by the USENET SERVER,

"msnews.microsoft.com".

2) Because of this, your posts appear on the USENET, whether you think

they do or not. Additionally, if they appear on ANY OTHER SERVER, it

is because they are "mirrored", not the ORIGINALS, which are posted

to, and kept on, the Microsoft Usenet Server.

3)The MAJORITY of the Usenet prefers one to use INLINE posting, rather

than EITHER bottom or top posting.

4) "Top Posting versus Bottom Posting" is NOT "the normal or preferred

method in all MS newsgroups". It is simply the CONVENTION (as opposed

to "rule") which Usenet-illiterate folks EVERYWHERE use, not just the

Microsoft Usenet groups, until they are persuaded to use Inline

posting.

4) The 20 or so Microsoft Usenet groups served by msnews.microsoft.com

are a SMALL percentage of the TOTAL of over a HUNDRED THOUSAND Usenet

groups.

5) NOTE that the GNKSA is NOTHING more than an ADVISORY of PREFERRED

methods to build USENET Newsreaders (i.e., "a BOOK OF CONVENTIONS for

Usenet Client construction", NOT a "Usenet Rule book".)

6) If you don't know the difference between a "CONVENTION" and a

"RULE", I advise you to read the DICTIONARY, and NOT "Wikipedia".

This is because the Microsoft community groups are a TINY percentage

of the TOTAL number of Usenet groups, which is somewhere around

160,000 at present.

If they never see any other groups than Microsoft's, they would

probably think top-posting is the "normal, preferred" method in all MS

newsgroups. Understandable.

The actuality is, the majority of those posting to Microsoft's

Communities are simply Usenet-illiterate, and have no idea what the

Usenet is, or what the conventions used by the majority of Usenet

posters are.

NOTE mr. "artfudd's" ignorance about where his posts are actually

going: "I don't post in Usenet..."

Yes, mr. "artfudd", you do.

Did you noticed that your post was a bottom post, not inline? :)

To me inline, is just a variation on the bottom post. When replying to a

post that is long, and covers a number of topics, I tend to inline post

in reply. Otherwise, I bottom post.

When I first started posting to msnewsgroups, I top-posted, but gradually

I shifted to inline posting, which led to bottom posting.

So watch out when inline posting, it is the gateway drug to that terrible

scourge that is bottom posting, and that leads to gay marriage and the

destruction of the family! )

Me too..

I did also, simply because I first started out using Outlook Express,

rather than a formal Usenet client. Since OE did not have the ability

to automatically "bottom post" at that time, that is what I initially

used.

Once I discovered Forte's Agent Newsreader, and the FULL Usenet, I

gradually came to believe that inline-posting was the best way. At

least for me. I cannot speak for anyone else.

Heck, I even got into arguments over top-versus-bottom for years. It

appears that the ONLY ones who PREFER top-posting are the NOVICES who

seem forced to post idiotic crap in these particular newsgroups. (I've

done my share of idiotic posts, so don't accuse me of being "high and

mighty", please.)

I prefer the "gateway drug", "mota verde", rather than some kind of

posting convention. The thing is, I've never been able to find the

vaunted "gateway" the Feds say I've probably entered by now (been

smokin' since the late 60's without harm, and without any thought or

desire to "upgrade").

I post to a server that is owned by MS, and that it then gets picked up & posted

to whatever other servers and readers in the Usenet system is not my doing. I

abide by the protocol and rules if any, of the news server to which I am posting

regardless of the vehicle used. Wherever you receive your newsgroup postings

from does not change or negate the rules or guidelines of common courtesy

outlined by the particular newsgroup or newsgroup server that your post is aimed

at or in reply to.

Just because your posts are spread far and wide through the Usenet system does

not relieve you of the obligation (whether enforceable or not) of posting

according to the protocol set by the newsgroup or NG server you post to. In

other words you also are NOT posting specifically to 'Usenet', you *are* posting

(in this case) to the MS news server "msnews.microsoft.com" which does have

certain rules & guidelines (as posted by the original poster), and you *should*

abide by them out of the common courtesy practiced by most knowledgeable &

considerate Usenet users.

I have to agree with you that "Respect is earned, not a given"... obviously! :)

But whether earned or not, some people simply (appear to) not have the capacity

to 'give' respect.

MS kinda does. Back when I used to post to xp.gen, I had plenty of posts

censored from the msnews servers.

http://microscum.com/censored

But I made it much easier for them by posting through their server. Now

I don't, and I'm sure many of my posts aren't on the msnews server, but

they are on most of the countless thousands of USENET servers that

propagate this group worldwide.

MS could conceivably make this a private registration only group, like

back when XP was in preview, but I don't ever see them doing it for their

commercial software products that are publicly available.

Everyone who participates in these newsgroups are already

"volunteers". That is what the these groups are all about. Voluntary

discussion of the pros and cons of the Vista Platform. No one forces

us to come here, and no one forces us to leave (hopefully).

WHO in God's name would want to even TRY to "moderate" the crazies in

here? You simply CAN'T "moderate" someone like Frank, for instance.

HE apparently has no tongue which can be moderated. And no "reason"

which can be reasoned with. Just leave the man alone, let his words

pass you by like an evil wind, and they will never harm you.

Most others in here do show SOME sense of decency and self-moderation,

and normally wouldn't need to be "moderated".

Microsoft has at least SOME trust in its customers, since they don't

moderate the microsoft.public.windows.* groups.

Perhaps a few of the more "immoderates", who are usually unwilling to

forego having the last word, could learn to moderate their OWN

behavior.

After all, WHY is it so important that "I" (whoever the "I" is) must

always be right? Sometimes, the "wrongest" thing a man can do is to

"be right".

I've been "right" many times, but ultimately did the WRONG thing by

insisting on my "rightness". While it is good to have a strong sense

of morality and virtue, if we are TRULY right, and TRULY act

virtuously, we will not need to claim our "rightness".

If one is "right", he is "right" whether another believes it or not.

And if one's actions are "virtuous", they will be apparent to all

around. There is no need to boast or brag about one's own virtues.

Both good and evil men recognize a good man, even without speaking.

Good men recognize other good men by their words and deeds to others.

Evil men, however, recognize good men only by the way they themselves

are treated.

IF they are treated well, they will recognize the goodness in the

good man. IF they are treated evily, they will recognize only evil in

the good OR evil man.

Lovely rhetoric, but of no import to the folks who need it.

This group is not intended to be an advocacy, Ubuntu or Linux forum.

Were I to moderate it (for pay!) the foolishness would end immediately.

It would revert to being useful and helpful, minus the distraction from

those whose mission in boredom is to be contentious and disruptive.
