Which implies you have yet to go back, however reality is that you are

already back.

Which part of that means, "I'll have to go back to WM?"

Sh*t-for-Brains, you have to be in the "News part" of WM to post to this

Newsgroup.

How to you go to a place you are already at?

> She is a slippery tramp

Actually, it sounds like you need it more. Like you get off on it.

> It might get applied to you.

Whatever gets you off, dude.

> You know, that get rid of you thing,

Yeah, you mean a killfile. My experience is that only cowards,

effeminate metrosexuals, and little old ladies use the killfile.

Which one are you?

Your opinion. You are entitled to it. However, if you look back at your

posts in this conversation, it's you that's spinning to my extreme

pleasure.

> I have to go to a meeting.

Yeah, don't want to miss that mandatory random drug test for your parole

officer.

> I can't play with you today.

Too late, you already have. You have a real short-term memory problem.

It's a good thing that .NET practically does all the coding for you.

You think it's a tool you use, but in reality, you are a tool for it.

You can give that program/user say webserv the role of starting applications

on the priveleged ports.

In Solaris this is RBAC, Linux has similar. Google search in it, there are

lots to read on it.

> In fact, "su" is the command to S witch U ser. So why do you say

> that Unix privileges aren't assigned per-user?

They are assigned to the process uidNumber and gidNumber real and effective.

After login, the name means nothing but for display purposes. It is

possible for example to have 2 user IDs with the same uidNumber, although

not recommended.

Don't get me wrong, su and sudo are very important progams. In fact they

are programs that can be used on the cocmmand line to change

uidNumber/gidNumbers then run a process..

An example. (if you see this, you have been hacked or are insecure)

If

root has the uidnumber of 0

dave could have the uidnumber of 0

Then dave is the same access as root.

Thus dave is root in priveleges. dave does not have different privileges

from root.

Thus privileges are not assigned to root but assigned to uidNumber, in this

case 0 for admin/root.

One hardening exercise is to change the root name to something like r00t or

something other than root, since the login process uses it. But I go

astray.

Next item, Microsoft sort of borrowed this concept from UNIX to with GUIDs.

As any seasoned admin about GUID hell (a very long uidNumber) ... Although

MS borrowed it, it most often relies on the user processes for enforcement,

not the kernel so it isn't hard to bypass. Part of why MS OSes are full of

holes, it isn't enforced by the kernel and every application does it

differently. Making it unnecessarily complex with holes.

Vista seems to be the first attempt at enforcing it, but appears to be in

the user libraries not the kernel. Inefficient and the jury is out on how

effective. Certainly makes it fat and bloated.

Linux warranty is better. MS warranty and RTU is considerably longer but

can summarize both quite easility.

In each of Microsoft and Linux, you are on your own. If Microsoft has sole

judgment as do the Linux developers. Microsoft is not responsible for

damages or harm to which is not any different. You are on your own. But

either will provide paid support. Free support is available in different

channels.

MS you are heavily restricted. You cannot alter the code, even has VM

restrictions, license keys and DRM to restrict you the user. You cannot

distribute. If we Microsoft decide to stop supporting it, you are on your

own. We MS have all the rights and you have none. Non-refundable and not

portable. Microsoft may change it's agreement.

Linux is GPL and open, you can distribute, freely copy, little if any DRM,

update when you want. You can also alter it in any way without even asking.

If something happens to the source of your Linux, you have the sources and

compatible alternatives. You can distribute it ay way you want. You get a

total refund of $0 and paid $0 if you don't like it. If you do like it, you

can copy it to your new PC, no charge.

Both offer per user support rates.

Next time you post select parts of the MS EULA, read it all and post it all.

It even has statements nullifying other statements so any one statement

cannot be interpreted without the rest.

I like 18 below: (the global bail out clause)

"LIMITATION OF LIABILITY AND REMEDIES. Notwithstanding any damages that you

might incur for any reason whatsoever (including, without limitation, all

damages referenced herein and all direct or general damages in contract or

anything else), the entire liability of Microsoft and any of its suppliers

under any provision of this EULA and your exclusive remedy hereunder (except

for any remedy of repair or replacement elected by Microsoft with respect to

any breach of the Limited Warranty) shall be limited to the greater of the

actual damages you incur in reasonable reliance on the Software up to the

amount actually paid by you for the Software or US$5.00. The foregoing

limitations, exclusions and disclaimers (including Sections 15, 16 and 17)

shall apply to the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, even if any

remedy fails its essential purpose.."

The only simple stuff is Nostop, just another simple minded tramp that's

loose with a one track mind. The tramp couldn't shift gears if its life

depended upon it. It's just a simple minded a$$tactular tramp that's loose

and it needs a serious enema. I tramp filed it long ago when I first came to

this NG, seeing that it had a tramp's agenda.

Vista has yet to drop a network connection on my system. So what is the

problem you speak of? The reason you don't see the level of knowledge is

very easy to explain, and one you should know. Answer this. How long has XP

been out? Now, how long has Vista. Once you answer those questions, you'll

realize why the level of knowledge is different.

And if you have been in the business as long as you say you have, you would

therefore remember that MS does NOT write the drivers. The mfrs do. If you

have a problem, take it up with Linksys. Or make Dell replace the system

with one that works.
