Yeah!

But then why is a GNU/Linux distro my default in Grub instead of Vista?

All operating systems get replaced. Nothing is forever.

The only question is when. It is *highly* unlikely that the next

version of Windows will be out any time very soon. It's a lot of work,

and takes a long time, to develop a new operating system. You can

expect it not to be until several years from now.

I did and I didn't like it so I formatted the hard drive and installed

XP and Ubuntu as a dual boot. The only reason I would reinstall it is if

new games require 10x. Until then, XP home works great for gaming and

Ubuntu works great for everything else.

Again, I installed Vista. I didn't like it. I removed it. Follow me so

far? So, then I nuked Vista installed both XP and Ubuntu. I liked it. I

kept it. Vista is on the shelf gathering dust. Man, you're slow on the

uptake. What Vista will do and what Linux will do is not the subject. I

use the operating systems that work for me and that I like. There's

nothing Vista can do that I can't do with either XP or Ubuntu. I like XP

and Ubuntu. I didn't like Vista. This is a subjective judgment that is

irrefutable so give it up, troll.

It might be in Vista, and that was a sad mistake. Drivers should prioritize

the kernel should. The kernel (should) know what tasks are demanding time

Shows your ignorance of setuid/setgid etc. Every process has a owner, a

group, a real/effective uid and group and possible roles assigned. Neat,

tidy, documentent and well thought out including overhead loads. Seasoned

too.

You just need to read more. And know the UNIX/Linux API will not change ever

2-3 years because it is better thought out to begin with.

Vista suffers from API overload.

At the rate MS is going, I was thinking 128GB of Video RAM and 256GB of RAM.

I waited a year or so, bought one. It sucks. The hardware is great, the OS

is crap.

Vista has a warranty (parts of which I quote below). Does Linux have a

warranty?

Note BTW that "limited warranty" is the normal type of warranty under U.S.

law. It does not mean "inadequate warranty."

From Vista Home Premium Terms of Use:

A. LIMITED WARRANTY. If you follow the instructions and the software is

properly licensed, the software will perform substantially as described in

the Microsoft materials that you receive in or with the software.

B. TERM OF WARRANTY WARRANTY RECIPIENT LENGTH OF ANY IMPLIED WARRANTIES.

The limited warranty covers the software for one year after acquired by the

first user. ... Some states do not allow limitations on how long an implied

warranty lasts, so these limitations may not apply to you. They also might

not apply to you because some countries may not allow limitations on how

long an implied warranty, guarantee or condition lasts.

C. EXCLUSIONS FROM WARRANTY. This warranty does not cover problems caused by

your acts (or failures to act), the acts of others, or events beyond

Microsoft's reasonable control.

D. REMEDY FOR BREACH OF WARRANTY. Microsoft will repair or replace the

software at no charge. If Microsoft cannot repair or replace it, Microsoft

will refund the amount shown on your receipt for the software. It will also

repair or replace supplements, updates and replacement software at no

charge. If Microsoft cannot repair or replace them, it will refund the

amount you paid for them, if any. You must uninstall the software and return

any media and other associated materials to Microsoft with proof of purchase

to obtain a refund. These are your only remedies for breach of the limited

warranty.

E. CONSUMER RIGHTS NOT AFFECTED. You may have additional consumer rights

under your local laws, which this agreement cannot change.

Well, I'd say that drivers are part of the kernel... Anyway,

in Vista the kernel tags I/O, well, packets, with a priority. If the

driver is written to call certain functions it can fetch that bit of

data and schedule I/O. Why is that wrong?

Oh, foo. Hey, if I want to open port 80 but run my apache server

with a privilege level other than super-user, how do I do that? I start

the server as root, then...become a different user, say....the apache user.

Same thing if I want to elevate my privileges. I change my UID, that is, I

chnage the user the system thinks is running the process.

In fact, "su" is the command to S witch U ser. So why do you say

that Unix privileges aren't assigned per-user?

And they pay me well to program computer solutions, because I have been

doing it for over 20 years. They don't pay me the big $$$$$$$$$ to spell.

The .NET IDE will catch keywords on the fly and point it out, and one can

name an *object* that one creates anything he or she wants. The .NET

compiler will even tell one about an object that is not being used too,

because of a mis-spelling. But of course, you know nothing about this kind

of thing. And you want to know why you don't know?

Do you know what go back means? It means that WM has a feature the will

sweep a NG and remove a troll poster from the NG period so that it can't be

seen, instead of just blocking the body of the post made by the poster by

its handle, but one has to go out of their way to apply the rule, and one

has to know where the feature is at in WM.

So, I will go to the News part of WM again, to the block rules, select the

rule for that tramp (already made), select this NG for that tramp, and sweep

that tramp out of existence again. She is a slippery tramp that needs the

tramp rule applied to her every now and then.

It might get applied to you. You know, that get rid of you thing, because

you are an a$$tacular, $hittacular and a dumba$$ home user that likes to

apply you own worthless spin on things. <g>

I have to go to a meeting. I can't play with you today.

Tell the tramp that I just got back from the meeting and I see her. I will

now apply the rule again to get that tramp out of my sight.
