Most people hate the ribbon because it makes using the program slower, more

confusing and takes up too much screen space.

Now they want to use this horrible concept on more stuff...in windows 7.

MS still hasnt understood how bad the ribbon design really is! lol...

Most first time users didnt even know that the "jewel" was a button!!!

They have the nerve to call the better proven way "old"... !?

ubuntu is looking better every day MS, keep this up and you will lose big

time!

So you personally went and asked most people? I don't think so. Maybe your

nurse told you to say that.

You are the perfect candidate for Ubuntu. Just your style. You just can't

figure out Vista. Very complicated for someone with your tiny pea sized

No, some people hate it just because it is new. The "ribbon" is really

just tabs. Once you get used to it, it is a much better way of organizing

things. Faster too, because the items stay on screen, instead of

disappearing everytime you choose one, like the old menus do.

Like tabbed browsing, this is the future. When Linux adopts this idea you

will be praising it.

On the Bridge, post after post, promoting Ubuntu and putting down Vista.

Your posts are about the same as Alias's posts. If you have such a "hard

on" for Ubuntu, why not go over there with the other misfits and help those

poor saps out instead of being a pest here?

You just like making trouble. You enjoy egging people on. Guess what? We

are up for the task? You idiot.

I love new things. That is not the problem. The problem is that its

incredibly stupid, ugly, confusing...

Don't make be start analyzing all the reasons why.. I would need several

pages to explain everything, along with screenshots... lol

As a Designer, I know when something is bad or not after say, 3 - 5

seconds.. lol

You have not been around too long it seems reading what real people are

saying about it.

But I have.

As an instructor and teacher, I know how people react to interfaces.

MS really knows this, that's why they are just adding that interface as a

possible way to implement and not enforcing it somehow. THANK GOD.. because

it would make a great deal of people angry.

Even if linux does add this as a possible interface (I doubt they will do it

so badly if they do) the good thing with linux

is that you can change almost everything in the GUI, and even change the

whole desktop enviornment.

Im not a linux maniac, but I know its strong points, and you seem to be

ignorant about linux.

Me promoting ubuntu????

I say UBUNTU SUCKS EVEN MORE THAN VISTA for desktop use!

(actually for other reasons though, more of environment and not itself)

But vista is very close into being one of the worse OS's ever made!

(more because itself sucks)

My post is about OFFICE and its stupid ribbon and an idea for a GUI that

should be DESTROYED

I have read all kinds of nonsense about it. So much, in fact, that before

I actually installed Office 2007 I was sure I would not like it. But lo

and behold, after actually USING it, I like it.

Who says that menus that disappear as soon as you choose something is the

best way? Choose the wrong item and you have to go back and open the menu

again. Need something else from that menu - that's right, you have to

open it again. And again. And again. How much time do you think has

been wasted opening and re-opening the same menus 50 times a day?

Sorry, tabs are an improvement. It's just shocking to see them used this

way. After using it for a couple of days you find yourself thinking "why

didn't someone think of this before"? Remember, lots of people didn't

"get" tabbed browsing either, until they used it for a couple of days.

Rubbish. Put your most frequntly-used commands on the QAT and minimize the

ribbon. That actually gives you MORE space then the old menu-style toolbars.

Im not against tabs as a general design option. The ribbon sucks though ...

Its the implementation thats horrible.

I also think that Office2007 should have had an option to revert back to the

old menu style, and not wait for a 3rd party to do that *there is an add-on

called classic menus for office2007* (shareware) you cannot imagine how many

people have thanked me a million times, some even in tears for me telling

them of the existance of that add on.

Oh yes.. The ribbon is bad.. horrid

Nah.. I think I will keep using it because Im flexible enough to use any

interface, no matter how awkward it is, just because I like to keep myself

accustomed with all latest software that MS makes, and at the same time bash

each crap thing MS makes.

My wife is happy that they have not (yet) implemented the ribbon in

Publisher. She is a power user that has just about every possible

button bar active, and she uses them all. She did the same for Word.

Now she grumbles about having to jump back and forth between ribbon

tabs and that the QAT isn't big enough to hold all but buttons that

she uses.

I've asked you many times in the past and you've never answered. What

design expertise/education/degree(s) (industrial, mechanical, etc) do

you have in order for us to have any faith in your opinion about the

interface design of Vista/Office 2007?

Or is it simply your personal opinion?

I know someone that just got a job with a medical company and was

running Vista with Office 07. Not only did the company tell her that she

could not use Vista/Office 07 for the job, they bought her a copy of XP

and Office 03. She is VERY HAPPY not to be using Vista or Office 07 anymore.

I have seen this same thing again and again.. from hundreds of people all

over the internet.

Its not only your wife, and its not because people are resistant to change.

Its because the interface is bad, and it results in exact the thing you say:

going back and forth and searching for commands.
