Perhaps it is a symptom of some kind of Accessibility feature failing? E.g. try using High Contrast to see if it changes the readability of the page. (Default toggle: LeftAlt+LeftShift+PrintScrn) BTW I don't use Vista. These ideas are based on XP but hopefully they would still apply to Vista. Cross-posting to a Vista NG.
