Considering the sorry state of the US' "health care", one would think

that calling that to task is a noble effort. Although at times

I don't see Pat Boone referenced on that web site. Do you mean the singer?

Fact is that the US health system is one of the worst in the world,

profit orientated and not patient orientated. How a country can call

itself "first world" when over 40 million of its citizens have no health

coverage is beyond comprehension.

Points are only good if they are valid. Points that are believed to be

valid because of slanted/unfactual information that is only partially

true are not really points, they are blunts.

Health care sucks everywhere, that's why people from other countries

come here for serious medical procedures. We have great health care, but

we have a bunch of people that think the free ride should extend to all

things - those people are never going to be happy until they have what

the people that work hard have.

Trying to trot out a straw man again, eh? Address the fact that over 40

million US citizens have no health coverage if you can. The current

advances in medicine are not coming from the USA but Europe. The fact

that some Saudi Sheik who is having is ass kissed by Bush comes to the

USA to put him or herself at the front of the line for transplants

doesn't give the US health system much credibility.

I pay 240 euros a month (330 US dollars at the current exchange rate)

and there is no deductible, no ceiling on what can be spent, no penalty

for a "previous condition" and we are a family of three. What would that

cost you in the States? If you don't have any money here, you STILL get

full coverage and pay NOTHING a month.

I had an operation here and was not only treated very, very well, the

operation was a total success. I'll never forget one time when I was in

Texas and this black lady had "lost" her baby. I overheard the doctor

telling the nurse to get the lady to sign a no liability form before "We

tell her we killed her baby because she has no money".

Another time, in California, my wife broke water and we called an

ambulance. The first hospital would not deliver the baby because we had

no insurance. Ditto, the second hospital. Due to the fact that when we

arrived at the third hospital, my child's head was coming out, they

decided to do the delivery and send me a large bill.

If you want to trust your health to money grubbing doctors who are more

concerned about their golf game, social status and BMW cars, be my guest.

He doesn't support universal health care for Americans, of course.

Health care in the USA is only for those who have money.

There were some entertaining parts of Fahrenheit. Bush's reaction to

9/11 was priceless. Nonetheless, I don't think he made a very strong

argument. I haven't seen any of his other films and have no plans to see

Because Moore happens to be an award winning director/producer of

documentaries. Got any more dumb questions?

I haven't see Sicko yet, but plan to. His F-911 film not only was

factual, (had to be since it was 90% actual unedited footage from news

sources) but damn funny in spots as well. If you didn't see it, you

missed some great scenes. Like extreme close ups of the idiot Bush

with assorted dumb looks on his face. The bimbo Missy Rice our no

nothing Secretary of State smearing tons of make up all over her pock

covered face, the evil Chaney sneering, strutting stumbling around,

and in my opinion the funniest scene in the movie was the war monger

and master architect of Bush's Iraq war and all around damn fool, Paul

Wolfowitz spitting into his hands then rubbing his spit into his hair

trying to long presentable. Priceless moment!

Pat Boone, the singer, is a regular contributor to that website. He is the

stereotypical crotchety old geezer who keeps talking about how much better

Easy. Because first rate medical care is available here IF YOU CAN

AFFORD IT. Americans with good insurance can afford it. Rich people

from all over the world can. Americans with low-paying jobs that don't

offer insurance, or offer poor insurance can't afford it.

Amen, Cal!

I have been a healthcare executive for over 22 years and Michael Moore has

hit the nail squarely on the head as have some others in this thread...

We do not have a healthcare system in this country. We have a sickcare

system, a curative as opposed to preventive mindset which has led us to this

situation we are in. Over 43 million have no health insurance at least part

of the year and we are spending in excess of $2.2 trillion per annum. And

yet, we still are 37th in the world?

What's up with that?

Profit motivates service instead of patients motivating service.

Bad news all around.

Oh, and Leythos, I suggest you check into the increasing number of Americans

who are traveling to Europe and India for elective procedures, primarily due

to cost and availability of procedure issues.

Something has got to give. I personally am quite tired of reading about

multimillion dollar salaries for health insurance company executives whose

organizations routinely deny coverage or care for patients in need. When

their goal should be to provide care, all they are interested in is denying

it.

Rant off.

Academy Award for Directing

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Academy_Award_for_Directing

"John Ford is the only director with four Best Director Oscars, followed by

Frank Capra and William Wyler, with three Best Director Academy Awards

apiece. Wyler has the most nominations, 12. Robert Altman, Clarence Brown,

Alfred Hitchcock, and King Vidor are tied for the most nominations without a

win, at five each."

Sir Alfred Hitchcock never won an award, and his movies were scarier, but he

had a lot more credibility.

Awards look good on a shelf but are meaningless. Especially in the

documentary category, where competition is scarce and low budget.

All I see is some rich bozo getting richer off the misery of others, and a

bunch of people paying him money for it.

Oh, well, why should they be any different than the Star Wars fans, Star

Trek fans, Harry Potter fans, and Texas Chainsaw Massacre fans?

Wrong! People from *some* poor contries with less advanced medical

facilities have received spcialized medical care paid for by other people

and organization, humanitarian aid.

Unfortunately, now it seems that possible terrorists are requesting visas

for "medical treatment" they don't need, the way others before then abused

the student visa system for flight schools.

No kidding! Just a little tidbit. One of my cousins is married to a

doctor that's part of a large rural practice in Michigan. Anyhow she

needed some surgery on her foot. Instead of doing it locally where did

she go? To Mexico where she got an excellent result at a fraction of

the cost from a highly respected surgeon.

Careful... your ignorance is showing again. Are you this biased on ALL

topics?

EVERY movie Moore has made so far hit a nerve. He unlike many of the

phony Hollywood crowd has the balls to do subjects others wouldn't

touch with a ten foot pool.

So far Moore has dared to expose the influence of guns in American

society and found it to be sick, disgusting and out of control. He did

a movie on how giant companies like General Motors mistreat employees,

he went after the Bozos in our government and how they are unduly

influenced by special interests and foreign governments and now he's

going after health care, especially the evil insurance companies that

rape Americans to the tune of trillions of dollars annually. Good for

him.

So I guess you don't think much of the MVP "award" either? Neither to

do I. Talk about a phony, meaningless, useless award. <snicker>
