Posted May 17, 200816 yr FPCH Admin Let everyone know what kind of server hardware you installed Windows Server 2008 to. It will help us put a list together of hardware that is compatible. If you have any problems with certain hardware add a note about the conflicts. Off Topic Forum - Unlike the Rest

June 19, 200816 yr Server Specs For Now, Running a VMWare on a Dell Optiplex 280G Workstation. As per the VM im running 1.25GB ram. 65GB Virtual HDD. I am an IT Intern for a medium sized company and they were looking for a fresher global colabartion approach. So being the young whipper snapper that I am, I have decided to depoly a test box, and run MOSS (share point server). So far things are looking good.
February 9, 200915 yr I have an Intel MFSYS25 Modular Server and at the moment each module is running Windows Web Server 2008. I intend to use this for web and email hosting (to upgrade our existing equipment). I may have to replace Web Server 2008 if it doesn't do everything I need, such as clustering etc. Each server has dual 3GHz Xeon processors and 4GB RAM. I only have 7x68GB SAS drives at the moment but intend to expand this at a later date. So far it all seems perfectly compatible and works like a dream. I've had no errors, crashes or BSODs etc so far :)
April 8, 200915 yr no web editions do clustering. Why would you need clustering on a web server? The web edition does NLB, thats what you need. Your backend database server is the one that may need clustering.

June 9, 201113 yr Author FPCH Admin I got a mix of 4u custom built boxes and a few mini servers using hacked up Shuttle XPC's. The one that runs this site is an oldie but goodie. It has 4 first gen Xeon 1GHz slot 1 processors with 32 gigs of ram in a 4u case on an Intel motherboard. It has an Adaptec scsi controller, running 12 32gig IBM drives. 4 internal and 8 in an external enclosure. It was the first server I put online 12 years ago and it's been up with the exception of OS reloads for the whole time. It's a workhorse and at the time cost over $10K to build. I would put it's performance up against any of the top of line servers of today. Off Topic Forum - Unlike the Rest
July 7, 201113 yr Just finished my second Official server build. First time for one using Windows Server 2008 R2 x64 Enterprise. Custom built for the company I work for. Probably a little different from what most people run as I built this using a Full Gaming Tower. Enjoy having it this way rather than rack mount. Hardware Specs: Thermaltake Level 10 Super GT modular tower (5x5.25" drive bays, 5 Hot swap bays 2.5"-3.5" drive accessible ) 5x Hitachi Coolspin 5400 rpm 32mb buffer 3tb Internal drives (soon to expand into 5 more of the same Drives) Asus M5A88-V evo Motherboard AMD Phenom II x4 980 Black edition (Quad Core)3.7 GHz 16GB Patriot DDR3 1600MHZ Ram Ran Bios unlocked all 4 cores. July 7, 201113 yr What? 5400RPM hard drives?!?! I hope there's not exchange or SQL on that server! -------------------------------------------------------- Tu peux aussi crire en franais. Du kannst auch auf Deutsch schreiben. Puoi scrivere anche in italiano. --------------------------------------------------------
July 7, 201113 yr Negative no exchange or SQL. I wanted faster HDD but boss wanted budget friendly with most amount of storage space, and 3tb for $117.00 caught his attention quickly. Servers only used for FTP transfers and storage database
July 7, 201113 yr Ftp and storage with 16gb of ram... Ehehe quite good for a storage server :P -------------------------------------------------------- Tu peux aussi crire en franais.
