It's your computer, so the choice is, ultimately, yours.

However, there could be a couple possible adverse repercussions of

which you should be aware. First and foremost, if the specific computer

model in question was designed specifically for Vista, there may well be

no WinXP-specific device drivers available to make the computer's

diverse components work properly. Consult the computer's manufacturer

about the availability of device drivers. Secondly, removing an

OEM-installed operating system and replacing it with another will almost

invariably void any and all support agreements and, sometimes, even the

warranty. You would, at the very least, have to re-install Vista before

getting any support from the manufacturer. Again, consult the

computer's manufacturer for specifics. Thirdly, there will be the

additional cost involved in purchasing a WinXP license for this new

computer.

After backing up any data you wish to transfer to the new OS

installation, simply boot from the WinXP installation CD. You'll be

offered the opportunity to delete, create, and format partitions as part

of the installation process. (You may need to re-arrange the order of

boot devices in the PC's BIOS to boot from the CD.)

Then, assuming you were successful in obtaining WinXP-specific

device drivers so that the computer can be made to work with WinXP, the

backed up data can be restored and applications (those that are

WinXP-compatible, that is) re-installed.

You wouldn't know Frank, as you've never tried Ubuntu. You're just a fscking

All of them. Since we can't see inside your computer's case from here,

and since you've failed to list the specific components (to include

make/model) of your computer, we can answer only in the most general

terms. You need the specific WinXP-compatible drivers provided by the

manufacturers of *all* of the computer's components. These would

include, but may not be limited to:

Motherboard Chipset drivers

Video drivers

Sound Card drivers

Network Adapter Driver

IDE drivers

Modem driver

Mouse/Pointing Device drivers

USB bus drivers

Oh, I was having a good time with it. Until i decided to try the compiler.

gcc could not find <stdio.h>

#include <stdio.h>

int main() {

printf("Hello, World!")

}

I looked in the config.log and it said whatever its using for it standard

headers were missing. Mandriva Linux works fine. Cygwin works fine.

Mingw/MSYS compiles that simple program just fine.

Also, would not recognize my TV card. WMC can.

I think you'll find most drivers are written for a specific OS or family of

OS.

What worked in NT, W2K and XP probably won't work with Vista because it has

been changed so much.

Drivers written specifically for Vista many times won't work with XP.

Either the driver is incompatible, or the installer says...I was made for a

newer OS, so I just won't install.

In many cases, if you look at each piece of hardware by make/model, you can

get XP drivers for them.

But it is time consuming and you have to download all the proper drivers and

have them available when installing XP.

I have done it on a Toshiba laptop. It took 5 days to find all the drivers,

but it works fine now with XP Pro installed.

I meant specifically for chip sets and sata drives and such. I realize all

Ah, so you're a real "macho man", eh?

Gosh, the Nam war ... that reminds of a song, oh yeah, this one:

Feel Like I'm Fixing To Die Rag (Next Stop Vietnam)

Country Joe & the Fish

Come on all of you big strong men

Uncle Sam needs your help again

he's got himself in a terrible jam

way down yonder in Viet Nam so

put down your books and pick up a gun we're

gonna have a whole lotta fun

(CHORUS)

And it's one, two, three, what are we fighting for

don't ask me I don't give a damn, next stop is Viet Nam

And it's five, six, seven, open up the pearly gates

ain't no time to wonder why, whoopee we're all gonna die

Come on generals, let's move fast

your big chance has come at last

now you can go out and get those reds

cos the only good commie is the one that's dead and

you know that peace can only be won when we've

blown 'em all to kingdom come

Come on wall street don't be slow

why man this war is a go-go-go

there's plenty good money to be made by

supplying the army with the tools of its trade

let's hope and pray that if they drop the bomb,

they drop it on the Viet Cong

Come on mothers throughout the land

pack your boys off to Viet Nam

come on fathers don't hesitate

send your sons off before it's too late

and you can be the first ones on your block

to have your boy come home in a box

You could change Viet Nam for Iraq and it would still hold true.
