barrett Posted May 7, 2008 Posted May 7, 2008 I configured a 2008 server to be a DC and DNS server. All installs went well, but now that it's up and runnning it takes about 20 to 30 seconds to load a web page. Once it loads, the speed is fine. It seems like DNS is taking way too long to resolve names on the Internet. I have a SonicWall TZ 190 that is acting as the DHCP server and handing out the internal IP of the DC/DNS server to all workstations. If I manually configure the clients with the ISP's DNS servers they run fine. It has to be an issue with the DNS server. Any suggestions would be much appreciated. Quote

It could be latency on the ISP network or the site your visiting causing the slowdown. Have you taken the SonicWall out of the loop to see if it is causing the problem? barrett Posted May 8, 2008 Author Posted May 8, 2008 I have not taken the SonicWall out of the picture. I thought about it, but everything runs quickly when I statically assign the ISP DNS servers. I could probably leave it that way, but since it's running Active Directory I'd like to use that internal server as the primary DNS server. I'm thinking that I missed a check box or some minor setting somewhere. Quote

bgancherov Posted February 11, 2009 Posted February 11, 2009 try this from a command prompt "dnscmd /Config /EnableEDnsProbes 0" Many network devices do not allow extended dns calls which are enabled by defual, tht above command (without the quotes) should aliviate the issue Quote
