Photo Screen Saver Crash - FIX That should Work for you too!

As I state din some other threads, I have had the same problemn as many where

the Vista photos screen saver crashes upon use.

This was not the case when I got the machine.

Well, After a long time trying to figure out how to fix this, I did.

MY problem (which mayu be different from yours) was due to a BAD codec that

ligos installed along with some 3rd party software.

All I had to do was unregister the file, and BAM.. works great once again

(except certain video fdiles the saver can not play come up with a generic

ico.. and this has always bene the case).

it seems that the Windows Photo Gallery and Windows media player, while

looking the same, are not 100% compatible.. what works ok in media player may

not in gallery (or photo screen saver which uses gallery somehow).

OK now to the FIX part.

FIRST determine if the issue you are having is the same as mine. Even if it

isnt, unregistering the file that causes the problem may also work.

GO to the Problems and Solutions Center in the control panel. Go to

History., Double clik the "Photo screen saver has stopped working" to see

erro rinformation., If the module that cuased the issue is iac25_32.dll then

you have the same problem as me and you can follow these steps to fix. if

the file is something else, you can try this as well (substituing the file

name listed int he error report) but I can not be responsible for any

reprecussions :).

Now, go to Start then Accesories and look for the command prompt. RIGHT

click it and select RUN AS ADMINISTRATOR. If you do NOT do this, you can NOT

do what is needed proprtly. You will see a c prompt. If you are not already

in the system32 directory, type cd\windows\system32 and you should be at that

prompt. THEN type in -u iac25_32.dll. You should then get a window that

pops up that confirms that the Unregister service ran successfully. Then

type EXIT or just close the psuedo dos window.

Thats it! Try screensaver now. It should run without crashing. Also, if

you wer ehaving the issue where it stays going and doesnt gtyurn the screen

ff, this MAY fix that as well.

Please me me and everyone know if this works for you too. Hope I helped

someone out!
