Why would anyone upgrade to vista unless they wanted some of its new

features?

If they want the new stuff then they will have to upgrade as required, just

as with Linux or OS X.

The only real difference would be the cost.. old machines tend to cost more

to upgrade than to buy a new one and Linux is frequently running on older

machines IME. As for Apple, well they just put code into OS X to make sure

you can't run it on older machines.

It's more stable and most bugs have been eliminated. It has

Compiz-Fusion instead of Beryl.

Doesn't the auto update work then?

Why have an update utility if it doesn't fix the bugs?

No "auto" update in Ubuntu. A little orange star appears on the upper

panel to tell you you have updates and you have to click on it and

authorize it with your password.

> Why have an update utility if it doesn't fix the bugs?

It does fix bugs and updates the OS when necessary. I got 32MB of

updates today.

Yes it was. Why would someone want to pay for an "upgrade" to Vista when

it runs nothing that XP won't run AND PAY FOR IT. The upgrades listed

above are free, so users of those OS's will most likely upgrade.

There may not be that many compelling reasons, but if somebody wants to

upgrade, then let them without having to sustain mocks and insults..

--

Mike Hall - MVP

http://msmvps.com/blogs/mikehall/default.aspx

Of course you are correct.

Everyone needs to make the decision based on their own needs.

And since only each person knows their own needs, no one else in in a

position to say what they did was good or bad.

Each only needs one reason reason and no need to justify to others

regardless the decision.

There is no reason for "mocks and insults" to others for their

decision.

Those that do so are displaying flaws in their own character while

saying little to nothing about others.

He's hooked alright. Absolutely hooked on Vista. As soon as he gets back

from school, he's in front of his PC, Vista booted up, todger in hand, as he

salivates and excites himself over Aero. Once he's finished though, he goes

into denial, and comes and posts on here, attacking the friend which gives

him so much pleasure.

"You didn't expound"

Your opinion and I disagree.

Perhaps it is time for you to also read your own posts and follow the

advice.

Ow! Bandwidth usage. THE only sin that is

unforgivable.

not sure about ubuntu but updates are not only about bug-fixing. at least

in opensuse they also upgrade programs and the kernel. that can mean new

features.

the fact you can do an update on XP does not mean XP can be made

equivalent to Vista (leaving aside the respective quality of either).

Then please tell me how you said anything worthwhile that wasn't already

said by Mike in the prior post.

No..there isn't any difference.

I am willing to pay for Vista , I have the disposable income , so I did.

I like the OS, and now prefer it over XP.

I also still use XP.

I didn't need any hardware upgrades whatsoever...nor did I do any.

Vista runs on the same hardware XP did for me.
