Windows installer, directory search, installs ?

I'm asking this because Microsoft gave up on me, don't know why. I can't

install Windows latest installer, hence I can't install anything that uses

installer. When I need to look at my disk, ie: add image to print house etc,

it takes forever to bring up the disk. Any game from Microsoft, FS 10, Combat

3, won't run now. Made a compilation disk of Win XP and SP2 and it won't

boot on this computer but will on other computers. I'm at wits end and don't

want to reinstall everything, please.

Ideas anybody? Thanks
