Noticed the other day when trying to manually run Windows Update on one of

my 2003 SP1 servers that the link to Windows Update on the Start Menu no

longer works - does nothing when clicked.

So I opened IE and went to the windowsupdate.microsoft.com site and selected

custom to run it. It sat there scanning for ever and ever and after about 3

hours I cancelled it. Have tried server reboots etc. and cannot get this to

run. Every time I try it just sits there scanning and nothing else.

Any ideas what I can do to get this working again?

Thanks

Check the WindowsUpdate.log for error codes

Start > Run > type in

%windir%\windowsupdate.log

Click OK or press Enter

The most recent entries are at the bottom of the log

How to read the Windowsupdate.log file
