Not DirectX games... :)

So, by your logic, all new OS's must be DOS 2 compatable.

I heard all the same whining and crying when Win XP came out.

Everyone declared they were staying with W2K or W98 or whatever. But

they didn't, did they?

Either there'll be new versions of your software or you'll find

something to replace it.

Funny that Microsoft didn't give us all the same good advice when they

were hawking Vista. Why is that? And I did go back to XP. Vista I put on

a secondary PC and use it for paying bills and digital imaging and

nothing else. Between Linux and XP I have no real need for Vista at all.

Nor does anyone else for that matter.

John

"Funny that Microsoft didn't give us all the same good advice"

It depends on where you look.

That and similar advice has been in these and other newsgroups for

years referring to various operating systems.

Also very similar to 6 years ago at the release of Windows XP.

The Upgrade Advisor probably identifies some or more of your

incompatible programs.

Of course as the name suggests, it is an advisor and no more.

The program manufacturers will also identify their compatible

programs.

What did the Upgrade Advisor tell you before you started?

What did the program manufacturers tell you when you asked?

"I have no real need for Vista at all."

Return Windows Vista, easy within 45 days in North America.

Other regions may have different policies.

I certainly would not keep a product that "I have no real need for".

Well now, you are certainly in no position to speak for "anyone else," let

alone for me. I get along fine with Vista, but I never expected it to work

with everything I already had, and it's always like that. When you adopted

Linux, did all your software run with it, or did you have to change. I am

delighted with Vista. I had thought, when my Win98SE machine when up in

smoke that I would switch to Linux with my new one. It came with Vista

installed, and it runs Kubuntu just fine, but there has never been a reason

to switch.

I am sorry you are unhappy discovering that Vista isn't XP! It was never

meant to be...

I didn't pay for it so it is no sweat off my back. It's just a toy to

tinker with. I use Linux for the internet so don't need Vista

baby-sitting me and on Linux I don't need to run ten different security

programs all eating up resources either.

With a game library running in the thousands of dollars why would

Microsoft even think we wouldn't mind giving up compatibility? The

dumbasses should have just built a better XP and given up on their idea

of controlling the masses with an OS that baby-sits every move you make.

They would have made a lot more money doing it that way.

Are you under the mistaken belief development on Windows XP has

stopped?

Not at all.

Patches and updates will continue to be developed for at least a few

more years.

The upcoming release of Service Pack 3 is a small part of that.

There is no controlling or babysitting done by Windows Vista although

some of the critics would have you believe it.

Like a lot of what critics say, much is little more than FUD.

Since Windows XP will be supported for at least a few more years,

there is no reason for anyone to upgrade as long as Windows XP does

what it needs to do.

Windows Vista works well on two older computers of mine.

Come on there are millions of apps for Windows and millions of programmers

writing apps for Windows . Some follow the rule and some don't, guess which

one break when a new OS id released. Sorry but that's not MS fault and it is

impossible to check them all.

1. stop speaking for everyone

2. With Vista I don't need XP and linux or any combination of the two. I

only need Vista

Only because WE demanded it! Microsoft tried to kill off XP and shove

Vista down our throats so don't BS me, sycophant.

majority, moron.

Yes, it is. Microsoft should have been making sure 3rd party developers

followed proper conventions years ago and not doing it after the fact.

come on alias, do you think that more than 90% of users and companys

in the world would use Windows, when Ubuntu where so much better?

realy? do you think, that 90% are not so clever then you?

you don't need regulary updates for ubuntu? you think there are no

viruses, backdoors and security holes on your system without updates?

great.. i know now a new machine, very easy to hack and use for bad

things!

everything on ubuntu is for free? realy? great, but what is with the

support? for free? who is paying the next revision of your "free"

software? who is paying your monthly salary?

alias, wake up! welcome to the real world!

Not a matter of cleverness. I can see you know nothing of MS history and

how they strong arm OEMs to promote Windows.

Liar.

See what happens? When you defeat their argument, they launch a personal

No, really ...its smart business.

You get to sell as many copies of ubuntu as you want, and nobody makes a

dime except you.

And for future support...they got you (cha-ching) , seeing as there are few

linux support techs available.

Call it noble if you want...I smell capitalism !
