Hi,

I did a repair installation of XP Pro SP2 and now I obviously need to get

all the updates again.

Problem is I need to update to Installer 3.1 and Genuine Advantage

Validation tool but these both give error 0x80246008 when I try to update to

them.

Any help or advice gratefully received,

thanks,

Mike

Hi,

Thanks for the reply. I did what was suggested in kbid=910337 but although

all the registry mods etc succeeded the response to the BITS "start" command

was "Error 1083 the executable ... does not implement this function".

Any ideas ?

Thanks,

Mike

RE: Installer 3.1 and Genuine Advantage Validation tool error 0x80

Hi Mike,

Download CCleaner and Dial-ª-fix

Ccleaner - http://www.ccleaner.com

Note, uncheck Yahoos toolbar during instªll.

Do the scans with all the check marks ºn.

Run the above remover in safe mode then Ccleaner on all 3

settings(windows, apps & issues) and clear anything found reboot and see if it

still exists.

NOTE - The first time you run CCleaner's Issues scanner you'll have to keep

running it back-to-back until it finds nothing. One scenario is a registry

key may only be a reference pointing to a completely different location in

the registry and when it's removed then that reference link is also noticed

as being invalid on a subsequent scan. It's generally a good idea to keep

running the Issues scan until nothing is listed.

There is also a third-party fix which has had good results for a number of

folks here:

Dial-ª--Fix

http://wiki.djlizard.net/Dial-a-fix

Run this program with all the functions activated in safe mode. --it may

look as if the scan has frozen. DAF is actually doing lots of shoveling and

shuffling, so don't interrupt it.

Please read the page and Scroll down about 2/3 of the way to Download

Dial-ª-fix

Exit Safe Mode (Reboot)

Try the updates n0w

I hope this post is helpful.

Let us know how it works ºut.
