Um, a judge ruled in Spain that downloading music, software, or whatever

from the Net for personal use is legal. It's when it's downloaded and

packaged to sell that it isn't. We also pay a fee for every CD or DVD we

buy to cover any loss that the big media boys may incur. See

http://www.internautas.org for more information.

There is no DRM in Linux so there is none to

bypass. And no its not illegal to have a system

that doesn't have it. Its illegal to hack it if it

is there. Even Apple is think about dropping it.

Some people will be lead astray by anything they

hear.

Don't think for yourself. Do as your are told.

If you do it properly in this country you pay fees

also. For the media and for the burners.

Guarantee you the artist don't see any of it.

Ring tones from popular songs. RIAA already said

they want the royalties but they would not pass

them onto the artists. How about the writers strike?

So who is the thief here? DRM is only to control

the artist. With technology where it is today the

artist don't need the recording industry. So the

RIAA has to find a way that the artist needs

them.....DRM.

I think the fairer statement would be that there is no code in the linux

distros to support drm. There is a big difference between not having

(and not required to have) such code vs including code specifically to

bypass drm.

It is only Illegal in a country where DRM is the

law. If the recording industry says that they get

royalties from all music media and

burners, recorders, etc just in case you burn your

own then they are getting paid. So if they are

getting paid how are you stealing?

Not hard. Linsux is just Unix regurgitated, which means it is just as

crappy application platform as Unix was. Remember, even DOS

applications generally beat the pants off Unix applications in their

day, even with the stupid limitations of DOS...

Frank, you're always such a dumb dick it is a wonder you remember to

breath. Oh, I forgot, that's just a reflex otherwise you would have

been dead along if you had to think about it because thinking is far

beyond your ability.

The truth about who "stole" what when will never totally be known. The

fact is in the beginning both Gates and Jobs were buddies. Good

buddies.

This is as close to the truth as any story and far better than

listening to the rabid dog Frank bark and snort.

Nice piece on grid computing, but what does it tell us

apart that Linux is flexible enough to do such? :-)

Still, it's a nice win for Linux. (I should note, of

course, that Linux is not Unix -- but a casual user

would be hard pressed to tell the diff without digging

into the internals.)

<begin excerpt>

Linux-powered supercomputers don't require any

particularly special version of Linux. New Mexico's SGI

Altix ICE, for example, run pretty much standard Novell

SLES (SUSE Linux Enterprise Server) and Red Hat's RHEL

(Red Hat Enterprise Linux).

One of the reasons why Linux owns HPC

(high-performance computing) is that today's

supercomputers tend to be made up of clusters

of multi-cored processors. Typically, these are

dual-core CPUs. The one notable exception is that

Intel's quad cored Clovertown chips now power 102 of

the Top 500. The vast majority of the fastest of the

fast supercomputers, 354 systems, or 70.8 percent,

now use Intel processors. Intel is followed by the AMD

Opteron family, 78 system,s or 15.6 percent. After AMD,

IBM takes third place with 61 systems, or 12.2 percent,

that use IBM Power processors.

<end excerpt>

As for DOS "kicking UNIX ass", I strongly suspect that DOS

won because of its relatively inexpensive pricing model.

Unix was very expensive back in The Day, and DOS, while

cruder, was far cheaper. The hardware was cheaper too.

Windows. Because it's not a question of if.

It's a question of when.
