I just build a new machine and installed Home Premium. I use to have

an older machine with XP Pro. There were some snap-ins that seem to

be not in the Home Premium version. I want to be able to control

certain things like locking the system out when passwords fail after 3

attempts, and clearing page files on exit. Would these snap in only

be in the Ultimate version?

Yes, the Vista Home Premium is still a "home" version, similar to XP Home.

The normal upgrade path from XP Pro is to go to Vista Business or Vista

Ultimate.

 

Many of the changes that are possible using the Group Policy Editor

(GPEdit.msc), and Security Policy Editor (secpol.msc) can be implemented in

Vista Home Premium using direct registry edits. There is a document that

describes all of the Group Policy settings and their associated registry

locations in the Group Policy Editor reference that can be downloaded here:
