When I was looking through my new choices of desktops and themes for my

laptop, I noticed that there's a seperate category with 9 selections.

"Vistas." Are these any different than a regular background, and if so, why

are they filed seperately?

Thanks in advance!

I think its just a descriptive tag for the pictures, meaning "panoramic view

or scene". The backgrounds are sorted by their tags. The vista pics are

just pics.

"Vista" refers to a scenic view in this case, not the software Vista. It's

just a category, like the black and white backgrounds are in one category,

textures in another ...

The different category selections that appear in desktop background, asides

from solid colors, just seem to indicate the file type and location of the

folder, for example the public folder that can be shared in a network.

If you have the "Vista Ultimate" package you can download the dreamscene

extra, which in turn, allows you to use video files (wmv or mpg) to be set

as your desktop background, making full motion videos that loop forever as

your desktop wallpaper instead of a static image. Running dreamscene in my

system (Athlon x2 4200+, 2gb ddr400 ram, and AMD/ATI hd2900xt) seems to take

about 5-7% of the overall cpu resources when idle, but at least for me the

trade off seems worth it for the aesthetic quality it gives (you can pause

it whenever you want anyways.)

A vista is a scenic photograph!

Thanks everyone! Didn't know about that Ultimate tidbit... but after looking

at the pricetag, I'll stick with my Home Premium for now. )
