Vista is good in my opinion...but not perfect.

Like all OS's previous , the bugs will get worked out over time.

Some, like WGA, are here to stay I'm afraid.

Ntkrnlpa.exe Corrupt

Hi,

I would like help with my problem if anyone is able. I was installing a

Microsoft update (Vista Business) and the computer crashed. When I

tried to reboot I got the following error message:

File: \windows\system32\ntkrnlpa.exe

Status: 0XC0000098

Info: Windows failed to load because the kernel is missing, or corrupt.

I have tried all of the options on going back to the Vista DVD to repair

the error but nothing helps. It won't automatically repair, I

discovered I have never created a restore point (which with XP I was

sure happened every time a new driver was installed) and reinstalling

took me to the advanced option which was going to install a completely

new installation.

Can someone help me with a fix. I've tried finding the file on the

Vista DVD but have had no luck. By going into DOS from the DVD setup

option I have found the file is still present in the System32 directory.

I've searched the internet for hours (and the Microsoft site) and have

had no luck.

The Microsoft Communities server seems to filter out most of the

messages crossposted to non-Microsoft newsgroups.

I'v got over 600 rules in my killfile so far and they don't delete enough to

allow me to stay caught up with this newsgroup.

One thing I've found that helps is to subscribe to this newsgroup through

the Microsoft Communities newsgroup server instead of through my ISP's

newsgroup server. The Microsoft server filters out most of the messages

crossposted to non-Microsoft newsgroups.

I'll tell you what. When I can go to my local retailer and buy copies of

things like Flight Simulator, The latest versions of The Sims and their

spinoffs, Quake 2, Quake 3 and that new FPS game coming out next month...

in Linux versions, then, and only then, I will happily switch to Linux full

time and become a full time Linux evangelist. In the meantime I stay with

xp.

All those run fine under Linux, but...

Thank you for defining the Microsoft mind set so succinctly.

  • 2 months later...

This person said "Quicksilver Remailer". I don't think that's the same as

Vista's Quicksilver...but then, I have Quicksilver and I don't really know

what it does or is supposed to do. I'm more concerned that none of the games

I loved OR new software will install on Vista! This is a very expensive

problem. Had to install the tax program on my hubby's puter with XP, but I

can't access it on Vista, even tho I put it under MY name!
