I just got the CDs yesterday! Don't worry, Dennis, you see me posting

from Gutsy really soon. You act like my installing it is an emergency or

something.

I was surprised what *would* run! So far, I've only had two problems...

Office 2000 assistant wouldn't change from the paperclip and an ancient

Wordperfect Spell application (that I use for solving crosswords!!!)

wouldn't run at all. But the even older DOS equivalent does!! So I use that

instead. I've even had GWBASIC running (I still use some BASIC routines

written in the early 1980's)... works perfectly. And that really was

amazing! One trap I found is stuff that wants to write data to the program

files directory... Vista won't let this happen and it can cause weird

problems. Configure any such software to save settings & data in the user

profile.

These Linux protagonists have turned the newsgroup into their personal play

area because they can. My kill file had some additions this morning. You may

do well to add a few to yours. It doesn't stop them coming to play, but it

is way quieter.. :-)

Just wait until the newbie computer buyers discover "Microsoft

Communities" in Windows Mail. I hope you're ready to help them because

they will need it! And, this newsgroup will appear tame compared to what

it will be like when that happens. Frank just won't be able to keep up

with his insulting and lying about them.

Errm Windows Auto Update... how is that a hardware change?

what's a good tiny distribution to try? I'm on dialup and need a smaller

Try anti-x version of mepis. It's about 250megs download. Go to

mepislovers.org and click 'downloads' to find where to get it.

It uses the fluxbox desktop which looks like junk compared to kde or

gnome, but the distro is very light and fast.

Mtr...in my area Books-a-Million sells some books with Linux on CD in the

book.

Two that I remember that were available were Ubuntu and PCLinux.

Books were about $35

3. clucker

A drug addicted female who hangs around drug users looking for a free

hand out. One who scrapes the carpet looking for any rocks or crystals

that someone might have dropped.

That stupid clucker is always hanging around acting nice waiting for

someone to offer her a hit.

Something has to report that the hardware has changed.. that would be the

driver.

that reports the change.
