I have 3 H/D 's XP on one , Vista 32 on one and vista 64bit on the other .

My dual core AMD cpu stopped working (? overheating as the fan stopped !!!)

so as a temp measure I put back the old AMD Athlon 64 3700+ CPU . Now the

vista h/d's will not boot ...can I do anything about this and why is this

happening? .....ps the xp h/d boots ok .

Vista won't boot because it doesn't recognize the CPU.

It's looking for the dual core and it doesn't exist.

Your options are to replace the CPU or reinstall Vista.

you can do an upgrade in place of vista to allow it to recognize the difference in cpu's.

this would be similar to repair in XP.

Hi,

Can you boot into safe mode ??

If so press windows button+r (for run dialog) and type msconfig (click ok)

Under the boot tab click "Advanced Options"

and select "Redetect HAL"

Exit MSConfig and reboot.

I hope it works.
