"The same exact identical arguments"

Do you expect the reasons to change?

Truth is a constant so change will be minimal.

"Fingers are pointed at"

Sometimes it is their problem since it was not done properly to begin

with.

Other times they are caught because backwards compatibility is not an

option.

At that point the manufacturer decides whether to support their

customers not.

People should use that information in their decision process.

"When migrating from one version of one OS to a new version of the

SAME OS, one shouldn't have to expect such things."

Why?

Says who?

This has not been true before and it is not expected to be true now

Before the purchase it is important to be sure that all essential

hardware and software will work.

If not, do not upgrade.

Since Windows XP will probably be supported for several more years,

the existence of a new version is insufficient reason to upgrade.

The majority of hardware and software and hardware does work with

Windows Vista.

Some does not and that is normal and expected.

Once the operating system is released, it is up to the hardware and

software manufacturers to make their programs compatible if they

choose to have their customers supported in the new operating system.

100% backwards compatibility is a nice idea but not practical.

Everyone would have done it differently and in all cases, someone

would complain

There are those that feel backward compatibly should not be considered

at all.

The result would would be a leaner operating system but very few

hardware or software would work without a complete rewrite of their

own.

Those wanting more compatibility would pay with a significantly larger

operating system.

Where would you draw the line so everyone is pleased?

I'm talking about the end result. The kids win because they are not using

Linux/Ubuntu or some other TOY knockoff. Doesn't matter what MS did or the

Choice.. something open source advocates seem to have forgotten about.

Are the kids in Spain and/or those responsible unable to learn how to

safely use a computer?

I would think they are more than intelligent enough to learn.

If not, then the problem you suggest is very real.

But if they are able to learn, there will be minimal problems when

they are taught.
