Windows Update installation failure kb936514

I am having a problem installing 936514. The machines in question are

identically imaged and only a few are having a problem with the installation.

I receive the error: "The installation failed, this can be due to a

corrupted installation database."

These machines do not currently have Office 2007 installed. They do,

however, have the Compatibility Pack to which (if I read the KB correctly)

does require the update, and they do detect that the update is needed through

Automatic Updates.

These machines did have Office 2007 installed on them in the past which has

been fully removed and does not show up in "Add / Remove Programs."

Interestingly enough, if I query WIN32_Product via WMI, the Office 2007

Enterprise installation is still there. I have tried removing this with the

".uninstall" method but to no avail.

I am thinking that I'll reimage unless someone out there has some suggestions?
