Typical Vistaboy: Why so much negativity around vista? It worked for me!

Have you installed Gutsy yet? Don't leave it too long. There have already

been 10 security vulnerability updates issued. I wouldn't like to think of

you being non-productive for too long, missing out on doing 'real' work in

AbiWord..

But anyone can make a video like that and put anything thay like in it as it

is all made up.

They could do one for Ubuntu but I doubt if there is enough interest in

Ubuntu in the world to bother.

Mike Hall the epitome of MVP stupidity!

How long has MS trained you on a leash to wag your tail whenever you see a

vista screen?

Suddenly a fanboy doesn't like updates? What happened to the old excuse

vistaboys use?

"Updates are good, that's why vista is always secure its always up to date"

Yet you throw this at Linux which there are no viruses or malware for it?

Linux is 100 to 100.000 times more secure than windows...

I must inform you that 99.99% of all windows PC's have some sort of malware

.... lol

They have the nerve to say "vista is secure" that is an INSULT!!!!

on Linux you have zero viruses and malware....

So maybe you can explain the fact that there are security vulnerability

updates for Ubuntu if Linux is immune from them?

I have no problem with updates, and run updates on Vista, XP and Ubuntu. I

am not the idiot who says updates are bad. Look to your 'friends' who make

these claims.

I, and others, also reserve the right to run whatever OS suits best. People

who come here to get Vista issues fixed should be allowed to do so in peace,

and not be harassed by the likes of you.

You would get more credibility if you dropped the name calling, but you and

others seem unable to bolster your cases without doing so.

Compared to Windows, Linux is bullet proof. No OS is immune.

Does "vistaboy" count as name calling? I cant get more polite with total

idiots sorry.

I think you can be both credible and name call at the same time. If no one

has done it before, I will be the first!

Linux updates are not for viruses and spyware.. rather other security

issues... for example ways for

hackers to gain control over the system. But most linux updates are not

about security.. but updates (more like upgrades) for the multitude of

applications each distro has.

Exactly so, and many Linux machines are carriers of vulnerabilities. In

fact, many vulnerabilities are generated from Linux machines. Open Office,

installed as part of Ubuntu and other distros is subject to vulnerabilities.

Unfortunately, there is more to choosing an OS than the fact it is 'bullet

proof' or anywhere close, a fact that you choose to overlook.

it was funny... when the Blaster worm hit XP (before sp2), I was on linux...

I started recieving calls from many people crying out that their computers

were rebooting...

I was on linux as I said before.. and I had no problem at all...

This was strange.. I rebooted my pc to XP (I had a dualboot) and sure enough

after

a few minutes my XP was contaminated too... lol

Does "vistaboy" count as name calling? I cant get more polite with total

idiots sorry.

Petulant kids stuff is your business along with others who frequent here.

You all want courtesy shown to you, yet are not prepared to show courtesy to

others.

You want people to believe you, but you will not believe others. You

summarily name call if somebody states a case against yours.

Didn't your parents ever tell you that name calling was unnecessary? That it

didn't help arguments or discussions, serving only to reduce credibility?

That was just plainly not nice, and that you were unlikely to get a decent

reception from anybody, regardless of how powerful you argument was?

When did I say I want or even expect courtesy??? LOL have you lost it?

How could I expect to expose how horrid vista is and not get reactions?

Of course da vistaboys will attack me... and I must explain how stupid they

are for liking vista.

What is the problem with this? It cannot be more truthful!

I have seen MVPs like you.. you are all nice and polite yet poison flows

through your veins...

No Sir not here. I am direct and clear. If you are stupid for using vista, I

will tell you.

I really don't want to be "nice". I can be if I chose to but you cannot be

nice and kick vista in the arse at the same time. I dont care if people in

here dont like me. If I wanted to be popular its the easiest thing in the

world.

I am trying something really hard here. I want to insult, and at the same

time I want people to like it.

How is this possible? First of all I really care about people, I try to help

when I can, and then...

Its a sorta tough kind of love.

The way I name call is actually humorous.. its not real insulting...

calling frank a monkey swinging in trees is a real insult? lol

An Article that says actually very little at all to back up the authors

claim.

He cites- an article by Tom Spring Vista Is Still Plagued by

Incompatibilities - which he say shows that Vista has software and hardware

incompatibilities- this is poor journalism - Vista is not the one with the

problem - the software and hardware itself is not compatible with Vistas.

This is a subtle yet important distinction. The application vendors and

hardware manufacturers/driver writers are supposed to make the necessary

changes to make their products work with the enhanced security models and

low level changes within the OS and they had apple time to do so in the run

up to Vistas release. The onus is on a consumer to ensure that the hardware

and software they wish to use with an OS is supported and compatible with

that product.

The next "evidence" is the article about a Gartner analysts discussion with

Steve Ballmer Mother's Ire Puts Ballmer on Defense Over Vista - again a

simple case of an end user not bothering to check if the hardware and

software they are planning to use under Vista is compatible.

So we have 2 primary pieces of "evidence" this journalist is using that are

nothing more then end users not bothering to do any ground work before they

dive into trying to upgrade to a brand new radically different operating

system

Then 3 no real information or issue posts about WU, so no big deal there.

A post about IM bugs in a number of client (not just MSN) - not Vista

specific so not really any "evidence" to back the original article title.

The a link to an old video that is not actually of any significance at all.

So over all an empty article trading on its big title and providing no real

evidence to back it up.

Poor quality journalism.

I don't overlook it. I am fed up with WPA, WGA and the other so called

"anti piracy" programs. They were the ONLY reasons I initially

considered Linux.

The updates were marked as security vulnerability updates, so one can safely

say that is what they are. Bear in mind that the Ubuntu people are giving

them the name, not me.

Gaining control of one kind or another is what spyware, virus' etc are all

about, so Linux too is open to abuse from outside. It doesn't matter what

application or part of the OS. The simple fact is that Linux has its woes

too, and claims made to the contrary are misleading, just as any claim that

Vista is perfect would be misleading.

BUT, the MVPs don't claim that Vista is perfect, much as people like

yourself tend to claim. We are not 'Vistaboys'. We, like many others, are

here to help others who have either chosen to go with Vista or who have

bought a Vista installed computer.

A computer is only as useful as the apps it can run, and if the choice of

apps doesn't suit a user, then the user should have the choice to use

whatever platform he/she likes without being insulted or called an idiot for

so doing.

Nonsense, the bullet-proof statement.

There are fewer attempted incursions on Linux machines than Windows, that I

grant.

My on view, however, is that the reason there are fewer incursions is

because there are fewer attempts. There are a several reasons for the lack

of attacks:

1. There are magnitudes fewer Linux machines than Windows machines. If one

is hunting ducks, one goes where the ducks are, and that place is certainly

not the desert.

2. There's not much to be gained by attacking a Linux machine. Most are

owned by adolescents who don't even have driver's licenses, much less credit

cards. Nor is there any pride in disabling a machine owned by a tinkerer

the script-kiddies want to take down Bank of America, not some game server

that has nine members.

3. Most miscreants are, themselves, running Linux and - believe it or not -

there is (some) honor among thieves. The Linux clan is so small that taking

down one Linux machine is equivalent to mass murder taking down a dozen is

genocide! These anti-social types do, amazingly, have some loyalty to their

co-religionists even though their appreciation for the human race as a whole

is suspect.

4. If some bit of malware, such as a pop-up infestation, did succeed in

penetrating a Linux system, it is unlikely to be reported as such. Most

likely, the operator would exclaim: "Wow, way cool! I love Linux!"

No, claiming Linux is secure based on the evidence of few invasions is poor

proof. Tar-paper shacks with privies in the back are seldom burglarized.

Junked, burned, and upside-down rusting cars are seldom stolen.

Three-legged, bad-tempered monkeys are not often sought after as pets, and

people never fish at the sewage treatment plant.

Its very odd.. I was running several XP machines 24x7 and never saw blaster.

Must be the security applied.

>We are not 'Vistaboys'

Is this a joke?

oh you are vistaboys.. the ones in here are vistaboys...

that Richard urban MVP, Jupiter Jones and several others are vistaboys of

the highest magnitude,

they are also rude, name callers and darn right stupid!

No not all MVPs are vistaboys...

the smart ones avoid coming into this newsgroup. why? because they know

vista is crap and they will either have to spit out the truth about it, OR

they will have to try to defend it... using lies.. since there is nothing

worth defending in vista.

All you've done in this post is display your utter ignorance of Linux.

In addition, you have displayed your arrogance and bias.

and all you've done here is annoy Vista users trying to get people to use

That means another 400 users. Can you say - WOW?

Hey Frank, tell us how many times have YOU have been asked to write an

article for a popular computer magazine? What's that, you're saying

NEVER, well duh, I thought so. Yet you love to pretend to be some

world class authority while everyone knows you're just a clueless Putz

with his head stuck up Steve Ballmer's big stinky ass.

Nice quote from the above link: "I'm never surprised when Microsoft

doesn't have a clue." Me neither.

BTW, a DAMN funny video on the above link the fanboys won't like,

everybody else will laugh long and hard.

All it took to not be infected was to be behind a NAT router....and if your

not at least behind a NAT router, even with only 1 PC, you're just asking

for trouble.
