slow drawing of desktop icons

Have noticed lately that my desktop icons are slow to draw or refresh

on reboot. I remember in Win98 when this would happen there was a

file in the Windows folder that I could delete & the file would

recreate itself on reboot & would be much smaller in size and that

would solve the problem for a while. Is there a workaround like

this in XP or any other suggestions to deal w\ this very minor but

somewhat annoying problem??
