USB ''Unable to load driver instance'' problems

Win2k up to date.

Have internal usb card reader/floppy drive

worked fine until recent boot, when installing hardware wizard appeared.

Then failed with message "installation failed because a function driver was

not specified for this device instance"

Tried the update driver and returns ''better match...usb.inf" select that

and same error message

rolled back registry a couple of weeks, but same error.

ANY clue please as seem to remember having this problem once before and

getting an answer, but can not find article etc etc

All other usb stuff works fine.
